The First Citizen's Super GeekBall Contest: Team Draft/Auction
- Tony Ackroyd(1000rpm)United Kingdom
Super GeekBall is a sideshoot contest of Fantasy GeekBall for the off-season. The next full Fantasy GeekBall contest will likely take place in 2011.
Don't know what GeekBall is? Well there have been two seasons so far, you can see the summary of Season 1 here: Fantasy GeekBall Season 1: The Whole Story and this should answer most questions you could have.
In a nutshell, GeekBall is a game about games playing a game against each other. Users on this website take the role of managers of teams of players, where the players are games. These teams play against each other in a sport which I visualize as somewhat like a cross between soccer and team chess.
Bidding and Team Structure
Bidding will in this geeklist. Each manager starts the game with 1000 $geekbucks.
I have seeded the list with a number of items that I think are likely star players. Managers can bid on these or can add their own geeklist items (which they must bid on).
The minimum bid is 10 $geekbucks and bids must be in whole $geekbucks.
Bids once made may not be withdrawn or edited.
If a bid is made and it is not out-bid within 24 hours then the player (game) has been bought and that item is now closed.
Once a game is nominated for the auction no other 'immitations' of that game could be added - so we won't be having 2 different Space Hulks, etc.
A manager is not limited in the size of his squad, but each player must play in a slot on the team that it is ranked for, for example, slot #3 may be "Family Games", so Puerto Rico could not play in that slot as it is only categorized as a "strategic game". If a player plays out of position in a game the opposing team can point this out and automatically win that board.
RPG team members can be systems or scenarios, but I imagine that most people would go for the System. And only 1 version of each system, so only one "D&D/AD&D" for example.
Video Games team members will be Games, not platforms.
Board games will be one from each of the 8 BGG sub-domains: family, strategic, wargame, thematic, party, abstract, customizable, childrens.
The team's captain can be any game listed on of the geek family websites (excluding video game platforms).
Managers can have more than 11 players (games) in their team, but only 11 can play in a given match.
I've seeded the list with my assessment of the "Star Players" in each game category based on rank and popularity. However my assessment may not fully align with the voting population, so feel free to ignore my star players!
Team seeding for the tournament will be based on:
- The number of star players in a team
- The total rank of those star players
If you add an item to the list you must also list its rank in all game categories it is in.
You must also bid on any item you add.
The amount you pay for a player is the amount you bid (not $1 more than the next highest bid like in 'normal' geekball).

The First Citizen has sponsored the contest with eight thrifted games on offer as prizes.
If another games company/game store/publisher wants to sponsor Super GeekBall then that is great and they can provide game/credit prizes like in previous contests, feel free to geekmail me if you are interested.
If you aren't a manager, please do not add items to this list or make bids.
