On a day where the nation's attention was focussed on a certain sporting event, the September 2010 WABA Thornlie Meet was one of the largest, if not the largest, attended WABA Thornlie meets.

This was a planned game (see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/566221/game-of-thrones-b...) utalising the following options:
*Original board, with extension if 6 players
* Use the ports from A Game of Thrones : A Clash of Kings Expansion (stops players from shutting others out from the seas)
* Use the house cards from A Game of Thrones : A Storm of Swords Expansion (Variance in between the original and Clash of Kings house cards)
* Use the Westeros deck from A Storm of Swords (Reduces the chance of mustering or supply not happening for several turns, gives a slight bonus for being top of the influence track, and slightly increases the danger of the wildlings which all seem like good things)
* No fortifications, siege engines, one time orders, leaders, tactics or wildling cards. (keep things as simple as possible for the first go).

The six players were Mark, Andrew, Nathan, Steve, David? and myself. This was my first time and I played as House Greyjoy. Andrew (House Tyrell?) won with the most supply after tying after the last turn for the number of buildings. He utalised an alliance with the orange house avoiding conflict for a large part of the game

From reading some comments, the main rule we seemed to have played incorrectly is that all negotiation is secret. I don't think this would have significantly changed the game, but it would be worth to get right for any future game. This is certainly worth playing again.

Having planned to play this game, as opposed to a get-there-and-then-see-what to play, shows the value of the BGG group. It is great in organising games that a) take a significant length, and b) that would/may be difficult to get general interest in. It was also useful in that those who had not played before could read the rules prior to playing and not come into the game totally blind.

Four intrepid bean farmers sought out to be the greatest bean farmer of all time! Or at least the richest between them.

Richard took on the role of teacher to two others (Nathan? and Mark) with me chipping in as and when necessary (not often). This is really a game which is easy to pick up and favours those who can think quickly-no AP possible here (no Tim and Richard, not even from me!).

I stuck to a 2 field strategy, following what Billy did the last time I played (see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/57728/games-played-at-...). I think everyone else eventually built a third field. I was more confident in this game to give cards away in order to manipulate my hand, and while I still wasn't quick enough to participate in all the trades I wanted to, I still managed to do enough for a joint win with Nathan(?).

This game is a solid filler-easy to teach and learn, requiring different parts of the brain to a deeper thinking game. It is worth keeping this game before, inbetween or after a heavy game. Consider it next time at WABA if you haven't played it before.

This was a 5 player game with Roger, Owen, Richard, Nathan? and myself in this cooperative dungeon crawling game. It is very easy to learn and is actually a light-ish game. We managed to win after traps and monsters failed to stop the heroes (although Roger did eventually 'die' after spending many turns giving others health back).

There were two games of this played. I played on the 6 player game with the Pegasus Expansion that didn't manage to finish due to time. In that unfinished game, I played as Laura Roslin, the human President. We only managed one jump or distance 1 before time elapsed, but both new and old players enjoyed the time we had.

The other game (also known as BSG: The Parallel Universe by me) apparently had a human win but alas, as parallel universes occur at the same time, I don't have any details. It sounded terrific and I hope someone at that game can give some details.

Lauren, Trish, Ian and I played this. Second time for Lauren and me, 1st for Ian and Trish. You wouldn't have known that it was Trish's 1st game though, as she made an early alliance with America as Brazil, invested heavily in Brazil and then raced to 20 power points. She had all but won at that point, so the rest of us fought over the scraps.

It's hard to get your head around the fact that the country you are controlling isn't YOURS, and that they will swop ownership throughout the game. Lauren got emotionally attached to China and I to Europe, with Ian having the foresight to buy them from us just before taxation when we'd got them into great positions to rake in dollars and power points.

Final scores - Trish 86, Ian 78, Lauren 77, Jason 72

In my top 3 gaming experiences of 2010 so far.

Rated as Tom Vasel's worst game release of 2010 so far, Lauren, Ian, Trish, Matt and I had to give this a go. I tried to convince everyone to withhold their judgement until the end, with little success. Despite trying very hard to enjoy it myself, I had to admit that the game is fundamentally broken when Lauren, who was getting caned at that point, used Satine's special ability (free level 2 cargo drops) to empty her hand of level 2 cargo and win the game in one move.

A crap game indeed. Maybe the FFG re-release will fix AEG's poorly playtested rule-set.

Lauren, Trish, Ian, Matt and I played this classic. Matt taught the rest of us. It seems pretty random, but there's a lot of backstabbing, negotiation and double-think going on here. It was over in a flash with all of us in contention to win, but Lauren, Matt and I tied for 1st place with Ian and Trish one point behind. I think things will go differently on a second play, which I look forward to at a future WABA.

This was the first game of the day for me. Sitting in was Rore, Ivan, Andrew and myself.

The bidding system, which included a rotating dial in the middle of the board, was both interesting and new to me. Great game that lasted 60-90 minutes.

I supervised this game, while Damien, Rore, Andrew, and Ivan played.
An intro to some, a refresher for others, and an easy win for the veteran player.

One I haven't tried before. There were six players, and the game dragged on a little longer that I would have liked but in the end many zombies were slain, humans eaten, and laughs were had.

This is the Games Workshop one as pictured.

Matt, new comer Selby, myself and Adam played this 15% likely chance of survival game.

It started off well, with Selby becoming trapped by turn 4 and Adam dying to a giant centipede around turn 10. Matt had more luck and eventually made it into the Dragon's den and had a 1 in 12 likelihood of waking the dragon, which he did and was consequently burned to a crisp. I on the otherhand encountered the exact same giant centipede and was similarly devoured, but not before the Wizard's curse allowed Selby's character to live once again albeit without any treasure.

Fun but excurtiatingly frustrating game

The Adventurers Selby (aka Blasty fingers) - the wizard, Owen - the Barbarian, Roger - the Dwarf and Paul - the Elf versed me, the High Lord of Darkness angry

This was the first of two quests, the first being to find Kelim, the emperor's wizard. After much success and a deadend, the adventuring party returned with much treasure. Onto their second quest, they had to dispose of a Fire Mage which Blasty fingers did by summoning his genie! This quest was over pretty quickly and the adventurers adjourned for a fine dinner!
