This is a very short list. Compared with other fellow users my collection is small, very small. Some time ago I had more than one hundred games. Mostly unplayed, some of them played just once or twice and many others that I did not really like that much. After some time thinking about it I realised I just had too many games. I decided to sell many of them and keep just the ones I really loved in order to make some room in my place. On the other hand in 2012 I played Magic the Gathering and Android Netrunner for the very first time in my life and I inmediatly felt in love with both card games. Since then I have focused my gaming activity into both designs and I only buy Netrunner expansions and aditions to my Peasant Cube, but however I still own some of my favourite eurogames and I am very fond of playing them every now and then. Games like Puerto Rico, Agricola or Troyes are that good that every single time I play them I feel I should do it more oftenly. Other games like Age of Steam, Dominant Species or Struggle of Empires are also in my rotation of games but lately my most played ones are two player games like Magic, Twilight Struggle, Netrunner and Combat Commander.

I wamt to explain a couple of things about the rating system that I use in both of my geeklists. I always play boardgames at least two or three times before rate them (first impressions are not always accurate) and being sure that they are played with the correct rules (wrong rules can ruin otherwise wonderful games). I couldn´t care less about theme, I dont mind if the game is about pirates, spaceships or farming: if I like the game I am going to rate it highly without paying attention to its theme. My rating system does not follow the BGG guidelines that are based on the willingness to play any given game. My ranking depends on the quality of the game or at least on the quality I think it has, since after all everything is just a matter of taste. Therefore in this list of owned games all the boardgames are ranked with at least a 8 cause I don´t keep any games below this rating.

Games that didn't make the cut
This other geeklist is about all the games that I owned before and sold second hand or I just did not buy after playing them for any given reason. Check it out, there are fantastic games listed there that I ended up selling for different reasons (lack of plays or space to store them, high complexity or huge playing time...). This is a quite big list cause I had more than one hundred games back in 2010, so I don't expect it to be finished before 2014/15. Games out of my collection

A fantastic dexterity game, Crokinole works perfectly with all kind of players, no matter if they are casual gamers, eurogamers or ameritrashers, also it fits perfectly in family gatherings or parties. You can play it as a filler for just a few minutes, but it is very normal to start a single game of Crokinole and end up playing it for two hours or more. As happens with most dexterity games it is very easy to explain but also very addictive. So far, I had teached the game to more than twenty five people and nobody really disliked it. Some of them were newbies that had never played a boardgame before and they really enjoyed the game. I couldn´t recomend it more, being its only drawback that it is an expensive item and very hard to find out of Canada or Germany. Including shipping, it could cost around two hundred euros. If you happen to know a skilled carpenter you could ask him to build one for you but the wood quality must be fine if you want it to be durable so it's gonna be expensive anyway. However, it worths its price hands down: this is just my favourite game ever.

Some time ago I was introduced in the world of Magic and liked it quite a lot, but decided to not buy any set of this game because it was very expensive to get many of the best cards and I knew I could be trapped in the collectors market, expending tons of money. After some time I decided to give it a try using the newly fashioned cube draft system. A cube is formed by singletons of several hundred cards that are designed to be drafted among many players, but the format also supports just two players. The result is fantastic because the deck is gonna be different each game you play and only a minor part of the cards that are included in the cube are used in a any given session unless you join ten people around the table. Another thing I do love about this system is that you can design the cube and adapt it to your own tastes: Pauper or Peasant cubes for the low budgets (just common or common and uncommon cards) or the fanciest and most expensives cards ever published with even a Black Lotus or an Ancient Recall if you have a huge ammount of money to spend in your Powered Cube. My cube runs 450 cards, a proper number for two to ten players matches, but it is normally played by just two people, four at most. This is the link to my cube in the Cube Tutor Web Page, please feel free to comment it and suggest aditions or cutable cards and draft it whenever you want to.

I guess I have to surrender and accept that this excellent design is gonna be my first and only CCG game (with the exception of Magic, but I only play Magic with my Peasant Cube or with other people's decks). The only downside here is that you need three core sets to have a fully access to all the game possibilities (only one or two copies of some cards are present in the core box), but nevertheless this game is absolutely fantastic and you will probably need all these cards only in case you want to play torunaments (you can create proxy cards when playing with friends or don´t use any more copies at all since only a few cards are worthy of a second/third copy and actually I only have two core sets and no plans of buying a third one). Netrunner is a fantastic asymetric two players game in which the players are even more important than the constructed decks up to a certain point. It has room for a lot of bluffing and guessing. I find the art in the cards pretty nice and the deckbuilding options are fantastic and keeps me busy for hours, making new and more powerful decks and tuning the ones I already have. For these reasons, this is the collective card game I had been waiting for years: a trully fantastic experience. I am also making a prototype for a Netrunner Cube, for two to six persons, but I don´t expect to finish it before 2015.

Through the Ages is an outstanding game created by Vlada Chvratil, one of the most profific and original designers of the industry. that has nothing to do with many other classical civilization games like Advanced Civilization or Sid Meier´s Civilization cause it is quite abstract and actually it doesnt even have a map. Anyway the game mechanics fit quite good with the theme. It is a fantastic three and four players game. The only luck factor is the draw of the civilization cards, but it is not very important at least this is the way I think. Vlada Chvratil developed one of the most elegant rules I had ever seen in a boardgame, compending a lot of things in such a few easy and clever mechanics. It has some minor drawbacks though. The housekeeping it takes, that sometimes drags out the game quite a bit, and the fact that sometimes a player can be out of the game because of agressions and wars waged against him. Players need to play the game quickly and think about their options during other players turns (something that it is very recomendable while playing any game but that is a must in TTA or it will take for ever). I like it more with three or four players but it is a respectable two players game too. A fantastic design, a trully masterpiece, and the best Vlada Chvratil game even considering his many other fine designs. TTA is my favourite "pure" boardgame in the meaning that is not a card game and has a board. Superb stuff indeed.

El Grande on steroids. Dinamic, chaotic and funny. Its only drawback for me is that it is prone to analisys paralysis issues. It has a nice theme that fits very well with the mechanics. A hard, heavy, long eurogame that I dont expect to play it very frequently but that I will enjoy a lot in the upcoming years. Dominant has the standard excellent GMT components quality. The best majorities game in the market, its chaos will end up being mostly controlled after some games. Anyway, due to its chaotic nature, it wont be a perfect pick for many euro fans that need to have perfect control over the gameplay. I accept that El Grande is way more suitable for the casual gamer and also offers shorter sessions, but I do think that Dominant Species is a tad over El Grande as a game offering more options. Dominant is also full with theme. One of the thing I like in this design is that it is extremelly hard for the newbie to beat the experienced player, which means that the game is subtle and rewards wise playing. Keep in mind that there are only twenty five action cards, and therefore once players known them by heart the chaos is reduced quite a lot, and the sensation of control is way bigger. When played with a full compliment of experienced players this game is just superb.

The best of all the card driven games and one of the finest two players games ever designed, the thing I love the most about Twilight Struggle is the scoring system, that is simply amazing. It provides a lot of tension, since you never know if your opponent has a scoring card in his hand. Its rules are not very difficult to understand but in order to play the game correctly you really need to know the deck by heart, since some of the cards have actions that can change dramatically the game course. Therefore the game needs commitment and several plays. The only thing I dont love about Twilight Struggle is that, being not a short game given that it takes around three hours to be completed, luck is oftenly more important that I would like it to be. However I have to admit (and I gladly do) that the best player beats the worst one 95% of the times, but however I had lost (and won) a few games just because of a good/bad roll. Anyway it is a fantastic two players game, actually my favourite one along with Caylus and honestrly I haven't seen a better CDG in my life, and just for the record I don't have a lot of interest in the historic period of the game so I am not biased at all.

Struggle of Empires is another swell multiplayer experience that can take up to four hours to be played depending on the number of players. I strongly recomend this game if you have at least five players, since with less people the game suffers quite a lot because it needs many interactions among players. On the other hand the lack of space in the map is very good to force attacks and backstabbing. It is not a hard game to learn but it has a lot of exceptions in the rules as well as many unclear situations that must be solved with a FAQ. It is a subtle game and is hard to know the correct way to play it. Luck is a factor but there are some actions in the game to be taken in order to reduce its influence. One of his drawbacks is the existence of kingmaking in the endgame. Kingmaking is present in the game even more than in Shogun, but in my humble opinion this is the best six/seven players game I had ever played. A wonderful Martin Wallace design that uses a lot more of table talking and backstabbing than the usual average eurogame and that I deeply enjoy every time I play it. Without any kind of doubt this is not everibody´s cup of tea for many reasons: you won't control completly what happens on the board and many times players are pressed to act in one or other way by fellow players, and also luck counts way more than in your regular eurogame... but man, there are very few things in life that I enjoy more than a full compliment os seven players and four hours of good old Struggle of Empires.

Along with Command and Colors Napoleonics my favourite entry wargame. I can undersstand why some guys get frustrated with the lack of a given card that makes impossible to do something you really need to do, but this is no problem whatsoever for me and in fact, I do like this feeling of desperately needing some cards and also the bluffing and tactical options it provides. It is a fast and easy to learn game, far from all these complicate wargames that are, of course, better simulations but at least for me, not as fun as this design. All in all I just love this sysem. I own not only the core game but also Mediterranean, Pacific, Resistance and all the combat packs that has been published in the last years. Pacific is a different game than Europe, a bit slower and less prone to events and therefore less luck dependant, but I like both equally. Resistance is different, I have no played it yet, and I am looking forward to do so. The random scenario generator is a fantastic implementation and with it I think that Comabat Commander will last for ever in my collection, giving me several options and an endless variation in my battles. Superb game, best in its cathegory.

Caylus is an outstanding game, and my favourite pure-euro design for only two players. Its rules are not difficult to understand but it takes some time to be able to play it eficiently. It is also a quite cold game, in the meaning that is hard to feel involved in the role of a castle builder when you are playing the game, but I couldn´t care less about theme in games. Its mechanics work perfectly, and Caylus is a game that gets better with experience, and a game among two, three or four good players feels like a chess match, a fantastic-almost perfect euro-gaming experience. I dont like it with five players though since it becomes in a bit chaotic and prone to drag out quite a bit. However with two to four players it is the best eurogame I had ever played. I still can remember fondly the good games I played with fellow user Jogarmon in his place in Delft (The Netherlands)... good old times. I own the special edition, a fantastic one for some people but not so good for others. Whether to like it or not over the standard one is a matter of taste. In my case I just love its colors and the new board. But check it out by yourself first since many people prefer the normal one that is also quite cheaper and very easy to find in any store. If you go for the special edition try to find one with the metal coins which are absolutely amazing. A superb design, and in my book, as I have said before, the best pure euro game available in the market for two players and one of the best ones for three and four.

Not being a lover of heavy and long wargames I always wanted to have at least one or two decent light wargames. After many years playing various designs, my two elections were this game and Combat Commander. I do like Command and Colors system quite a bit, it is easy to grasp, fast and the bits are nice looking. Epic battles are long but you have more tactical ad strategic options. If you don't have that much time you still can play a shorter but really good normal game. I played both Ancients and Napoleonics. I think the latter is a tad better, but probably it is just a very personal thing, since I prefer the stronger range combat in the Napoleonic series than the close combat slaughters that take place in Ancients. But both games are trully fine. It is a fantastic design as long as your are not looking for a very realistic thing, since the use of dice and several other aspectss of the system make out of this game a very enjoyable thing but not a realistic representation of the napoleonic combats. As I was looking for something fast and funny, and I am no grognard at all, this is along with CC series, my choice as a light wargame.

A wonderful multiplayer experience if you can cope with the combat tower system, which in my opinion is a genial touch but for some other people is a game killer. Shogun has the heart of an euro game with majorities mechanichs and a resource management system, and introduces the thrilling of some battles that are actually very important to win the game. The tower mechanics are fantastic, the cubes that remain trapped in the tower are very important to estimate the odds of your attacks and work way better than dice roll modifiers. Try to play the game on the board´s moon side, to avoid the turtling that is a common issue in the sun side of the board. Shogun has another version, Wallenstein, with a slighty better map that depicts the medieval Germany and it is widely available. Luck and kingmaking are present in the game, I won´t lie to you, and for some people in an unaceptable ammount. I can understand them but I enjoy Shogun a lot. For me is the kind of game that made Risk outdated. When we are four or five people and want to enjoy a multiplayer party of wars and backstabbing we choose Shogun, and when we are six or seven Struggle of Empires, but both are fantastic games (the latter is in my opnnion a tad better but also more chaotic). Just remember that Shogun is not a wargame but an eurogame, a very well done eurogame indeed and actually my favourite multiplayer conflict game along with Struggle of Empires.

After many years in the top five Puerto Rico still shines like before. Some of its mechanics were later used in many euro games like Race for the Galaxy or San Juan or even in excellent ameritrash monsters like Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition. One of the very few grips I had with the game was the below average normal alea components and now, with this special de luxe version, there is no reason any more to not rate this game with nothing but a nine. Back in 2007 I was overwhelmed by its gameplay quality and the way it rewarded skilled players and still after many years I will never turn down a game of this gem. Excellent edition for an outstanding design, without any doubt one of the very best eurogames ever published: ellegant, easy to explain but hard to master and loaded with tough decisions during its game playing time. It is true that a kingmaking problem can happen with newbies playing among skilled players, but once all the people has the same or similar level, the game is amazing. A sure winner and one of the most deserved top ten games ever in the geek. Puerto Rico is along with other classic games like Caylus, Agricola, Power Grid and many others one of the very few must-have items in the euro style boardgaming history.

Agricola is a nice looking game that includes more than 300 cards in its box. Using FIMO bits the game looks really beautiful on the table and reachable for non gamers. Game mechanics are also great. A fantastic family game, may be the best in its weight, with nice bits and excellent scalability. The core game was not the most replayable game in the market, but its expansion solves this problem adding many new paths to the victory and new problems to face for the poor little farmers. It is a nice expansion which adds new rules, new cards and more complex options. Farmers of the Moore transforms Agricola, an already pretty good game, into an excellent gamer´s game and an all time keeper in my collection. But if you prefer an easier experience you can surely go with the familiar game or just normal Agricola that are both very good and scales really well. A top quality euro and a must have for almost every gamer I bought a copy of this game in Den Haag back in early 2009 when it was only published in german and so far I am still loving it as much as I did many years ago. Fantastic euro game, one of the very best ones in its class.

Fellow user Canales recomended me this dice game several months ago. He told me this game was better than Burgundy, and given that I do love dice games, and that I liked Burgundy quite a bit I expected a lot from Troyes. And it is really an excellent game, more original than Burgundy althought it is completly different. Excellent innovative dice game with almost no luck and many clever mechanics. A bit hard for the non gamer, Troyes is a delicious gamer's game. Theme fits perfectly and I love the design as well (the box is wonderful and matches nicely with my Caylus Deluxe one). It is the most innovative eurogame I have played in the last three years. The thing to do is to find the best combo available, using the dice to get money, hire professions, fight wars... well, actually just to get some victory points one way or the other. An expansion, Ladies of Troyes, is available and offers new activity cards, a blue die that cannot be stolen and special events. A somewhat odd and subtle game the first time you play it but after several plays one of the most intriguing and special eurogames available in the market. It deserves to be included in my collection and I think that this design is hands down the best dice game ever created.
