[RESULTS] Most Anticipated Games of 2011 - ORIGINAL GAME
-
This is a new category this year that came about by allocating each nomination to one of three categories: Reprint, Expansion and Original. In reality, I looked at each game and assigned them to Reprint or Expansion and everything else went into Original.
I was a little hesitant to include this category as the line between Original and Reprint can be rather gray. For instance, consider the "reprint" of 1830 that will include the rules for another game from Francis Tresham. Yes, Mayfair has said that the original Avalon Hill 1830 game will be in the box, but so is the new game. Original or Reprint? There are arguments for both.
However, as my intent was to provide a category to let the "new blood" shine, so in the case of 1830 it was relegated to reprint. I didn't include a reprint category this year as the poll was already very long.
Speaking of "blood", I have added an honorable mention at the end of the list for Nightfall as I mistakenly assigned it to the reprint category, thus denying it a chance to compete. Given it's position in the overall category, I'm quite certain it would have been a contender for this list.
Unsurprisingly, Mansions of Madness was the overwhelming winner despite an admirable showing from Eminent Domain. There are some really interesting games that didn't make the list as well. Amongst these I would include Yggdrasil (12th place), Discworld: Ankh-Morpork (15th place), Godzilla: Kaiju World Wars (15th place), Letters from Whitechapel (17th place), Belfort (19th place) and Conquest of Planet Earth: The Space Alien Game (23rd place).
And, without further ado here are the 10 Most Anticipated Original Games of 2011 as determined in this most unofficial, informal and unscientific experiment.
