I'm merely keeping the seat warm.

Taking part is easy:

1) Add the game of the miniature you painted as an item to the list.

2) Add the picture of your painted miniature in the comment section for that game.

(use the format [imageid=xxxxxmedium] where xxxxx is the id of the picture)

That way people will be able to better judge your work. Medium should be sufficient please do not use large.

Rules:

1) The image you submit must have been uploaded during MAY 2011. Gallery images are ok but submitted images are preferred. As they've gone through the geek mod process it guarantees the picture quality and it's also easier to check the submission date. The contest will end on June 30th.

2) You are the artist. Do not submit miniatures painted by someone else.

3) One entry per person. You may, however, use up to two pictures of your entry to the front and back of the miniature.

4) The winner will be the picture with the most thumbs. You can thumb as many as you like.

5) If you can; include the make of the mini, scale and what paints you used in your entry.

Prizes:

Unfortunateley I'm reliant on tips to offer decent prizes at the moment as I don't have a huge amount of geekgold.

Any tips received will awarded as follows:

1st place: 50%
2nd place: 37.5%
3rd place: 12.5%

So if the tip total comes to 40 geekgold 1st will get 20, 2nd 15 and 3rd 5 etc.

I'll round down tips and put the remainder towards future prizes.

Judging at the end of the month and winners will appear in the next months list.

1st place will now also receive an exclusive microbadge! Microbadge: Golden Turtleback Painted Miniature Monthly Contest winner

Please give this geeklist a thumb to help get it to the front page. The more contestants the better!

And don't forget to click on the images you like and give the actual images thumbs up as well!

The images will be arranged alphabetically by the name of the game entry.

for making us aware of this.

Giles also found this useful website. It's full of useful tips on painting.

Previous contests for your viewing pleasure:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/51364/golden-turtlebac...

Attention anyone feeling too daunted to enter!
We now have on offer for entries finishing outside of the top three so enter even if you think you don't stand a chance of winning. This will be awarded at my discretion and perhaps even split amongst several entries.

Our more experienced painters will be able to offer advice and several people have already said they've learnt something simply by seeing their work next to work they consider to be of a higher standard.
So please enter anyway, you've really got nothing to lose.

There's now a guild for anything miniature painting related. It can be found here

Hey Cerith,

Long time no paint. Thanks for keeping this thing going! You really ought to rename it. You are the man!

I haven't had much chance to paint, but my daughter is almost 2 now and I've managed to find a little time.

It's almost embarrassing to show these as I see so much nicer work out there, but painting the minions has increased my enjoyment of this game. It took about 8 hours to paint the 100 minions. I used three shades of color on each plus some skin tone and silver for the swords. I finished them off with a black wash.

They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”

Greetings all! Just recently joined the mini painters guild, and saw this excellent competition. Not sure how worthy my work will be deemed next to some of the awesome stuff submitted so far, but here goes: the first of my DooM miniatures - the zombies.

Board Game: Doom: The Boardgame

The below is copied from my blog entry for the convenience of those who don't wish to read my wordy, unnecessary rhetoric surrounding the paint scheme info.

Flesh: base coat of Rotting Flesh, washed with Thakra Green, then re-highlighted with Rotting Flesh once more. Wounds were filled in with Red Gore. Eyes were first splotted with Baal Red wash around the eyeball, then a dot of Skull White. Side note: I am NOT looking forward to attempting pupils for the marines!

Blue zombies:
Shirt: Ice blue, washed with Asurmen Blue, highlighted with Ice Blue, then line highlighted with 1:1 Ice Blue : Skull white.
Pants: similar method, but with Regal blue as the base and 1:1 Asurmen Blue : Badab Black as the wash.

Green zombies:
Shirt: As above, but Goblin Green base, Thakra Green wash.
Pants: Knarloc Green base, 1:1 Thakra : Badab wash.

Red zombies:
Shirt: Skull White undercoat, then as above with Blood Red base, Baal Red wash.
Pants: Mechrite red, and black:red wash.
