This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Weekly Thrift List Wayback Machine The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly thrift lists through time, and will be adding stats and interesting tidbits for each week. Your Thrift Store Bargain Finds Through Time
Our GeekGuild: The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Do mind the stacks of prized games. Don't mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Be sure to bow before our King belial1134, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great Mazinga, minionhunter I, Krazygit I, EvilTimmy I and Blackwind I. The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters
$4, Talize Technically picked it up last night, but I'm a thumb whore. Missing the kings, half the knights (ie. only 3 of each color are included) and the orange scoring marker.
PS. The box had some extras: - a shiny pebble - a wooden trapezoid - a red wooden token with a gold dragon imprinted on it (what game is this from?) - some St Petersburg sized cards with dragon heads and coins on the back and numbers and gold coins on the face, although some card faces have a warrior in mail with gold coins on his crotch (any clues what this is from?)
I've been away from the list and thrifting for a while. First, because most of my time and money has been devoted to my eight month old son, and second, on the few occasions I have made it out, the finds have been pretty bare.
Had some better luck at garage sales.
This edition for 75 cents - shrink off, but completely unpunched inside.
This was unopened (until it got home) for $3.15 at the East Madison Savers. My son and I tried it as soon as we got home, but we both were let down by the game. I'd hate to see it go to waste, so I'll see if I can adjust the rules.
I was surprised to find the 5th edition of World in Flames for $4.22 at the Stoughton St. Vincent De Paul. The chits were unpunched, and the game was complete, but the box was a little stressed from the weight.
I'm not a big wargamer, but I'll do play them. However I don't think I'll ever have the time to play this. I marked it for trade, or perhaps a Thrifty Santa gift for someone else.
One of our local game stores had their used game/rpg auction this past weekend. Once again, I got way more than I expected so I'll be posting stuff for awhile but I'll be sure to note any of these purchases with "@ flgs auction" or something similar. As I go thru each item, I will either mark it as owned, for trade or list it the marketplace (or perhaps some will end up on my for trade list and the marketplace). Afterwards I will post that item to this list. The store is also accepting donations for a Joplin (MO) game drive so a few games I picked up will be going towards that.
