Oh did I wear out copies of this game as a kid! Statis Pro is the one baseball game I enjoy more than any other. Simple rules, quick play and a formula to make your own cards!

While it doesn't offer the detail of Strat-O-Matic Baseball, Dynasty League or even APBA- it is still so... fun.

There are several individuals who create and sell season sets for this out-of-print game, so it is still inexpensive to keep updated. These user-created cards are just as good (if not nicer) than the Avalon Hill card sets.

Statis Pro Baseball is still a cheap pick-up on eBay- $15-$20 range.

I didn't like SOM Baseball at first- I was too invested in Statis Pro Baseball for the most part. However, SOM Baseball really has grown on me over the years.

SOM Baseball offers more detail than Statis Pro Baseball and plays a better statistical ball game too. I'd say it is the best baseball game on the market and a classic.

Past season sets are available- but VERY pricey on eBay! This is one area for sure that Statis Pro has the edge since old AH sets go for around $20 and the new, user-created card sets go for $10-$15.

A front office management style game where you can play an entire 9-inning game in a few die rolls. It's o.k.

The old SI version used to offer player cards, the AH version had the player stats in a booklet.

Not my favorite game. Very chart intensive and rather slow-paced for a baseball board game. Just didn't grab me like Statis Pro or Strat-O-Matic.

Owned three seasons worth of cards back in the 1990s when this showed up at the game store I worked at. Played it quite a bit- seems similar in a lot of ways to Strat-O-Matic Baseball but with high production values when they offered colored cards and stadium backdrops.

Nice game- but seems like it has dwindled away in popularity since switching to black/white cards. Oodles of detail and stats.

Fun baseball CCG. Each player has a point value assigned and everyone builds their own team to the same value.

Fairly boring die-rolling exercise if you don't use the Strategy Cards. However, the game really comes alive with the Strategy Card deck (which works like your typical CCG deck) -- all kinds of bonuses and interesting plays can develop.

Not as realistic as most of the other stuff on this list, but the hand of cards gives the players more control over the outcome than just checking charts and hoping your guys get on base more than the other guys.

Still my favorite, due to the detail of the results ("Gagne makes a diving stop on a grounder in the hole!") and the extensive wild play charts; being part of the original IBL design team that reverse engineered the game when it went out of print lends some personal satisfaction to the mix. Cards for the game that the IBL evolved from PtP are still made (www.ibl.org).

Poor Replay! Always left off lists like this. No, it doesn't have the following of Strat, nor the history of APBA.
All it has is a deeply devoted fan base, a dedicated and responsive owner, a growing roster of seasons(just released; 1908 and 2004), and a lively, but civil discussion group at delphiforums.
I have played most of other games mentioned here. I just happen to prefer Replay for it's combinatiion of attention to detail without sacrificing speed of play.
(And please, no comments about "chart flipping". Replay has had a fold-out chart for results for a couple of years now. Almost no one uses the old chart books anymore.)

The first stat based baseball game I ever owned. My brother and I played this one so much, we would get those white marks on our fingernails from flicking the spinners for hours.

As an aside, this is my favorite story from the game. My brother and I were playing. Bottom of the 9th, I was down 1, runner on first, two outs. Duane Kuiper was up. His home run section was just a line, no space at all. Somehow, the spinner landed right on the line. We must have argued for 15 minutes straight on whether it was a home run or not. The board ended up getting kicked across the room, and to this day, we both claim we won that game.

It's almost spring training again, so let's add a couple of games that weren't already on the list.

I have the 1969 edition of the game and a few of us took time out from our APBA leagues to play with this for a while.

Master Game of APBA has been added to the database. I played this for a while, but the basic game is so much faster. Used a hybrid of the two versions in a solitaire league for a few years.

(The picture is actually from the basic game entry, but is the master game)

Interesting game where you position the fielders on the field and then once the ball position is determined, you have to move the fielders to get the ball.

It's a very late date to be adding to this list, but since baseball for 2009 is just around the corner I thought I'd toss this old title out there. In my teen years (a long time ago) I played entire seasons of this and its football companion in the RGI/Athol sports game line, Vince Lombardi's Game. These games have long since been lost, but every once in a while I get nostalgic for the days when I played them to death.

Anyone else here (if anyone is ever looking at this) ever play or even see this one?

Full disclosure: I LOVE this game! But I'm the designer, so I'm a little biased! In short, I believe this game is a wonderful balance between playability and realism. There are some ads around this site as well as some discussion (mostly by those who haven't yet played it). And I would be happy to answer any questions. I would really love for some serious baseball gamers to get it and review it for this forum (and other sites).

Here's the url: http://home.ultimatebaseballthegame.com

ps---Conrad, I'm still game to get together and play a few innings with you!
