The following are the events that are currently scheduled for the
2011 Fall Gaming Hoopla

The next Gaming Hoopla is September 23rd to September 25th, and will be held at The Johnstown Community Center, 9937 East County Road A, Janesville, WI 53546. You can find a map and directions from Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, and Rockford on our web site: www.gaminghoopla.com.

As always, all proceeds from the Gaming Hoopla are donated to the American Cancer Society through the Knutson Family and Tastefully Simpletuns Relay for Life Teams.

Except for the Special Events, all events are listed in chronological order by day and event start time. Please be sure to check out all pages if you are using this as a reference to plan your Hoopla schedule.

Each entry has a description, day, time, number of players, experience level desired, and name of the event judge. The experience levels are set by the judges and will be one of three choices:

Will Teach - This is a "learn to play" session...the game will be taught.

Some Experience - Some experience with that game or genre of game is helpful. Judges will still teach, but reading rules prior to the event is encouraged.

Experience Necessary - Player should be familiar with the game and know most if not all of the rules.

Don't see an event you're interested in? Then come and run your own games using one of the over 800 games in the GenCon Games Library and our ample open gaming tables!

For more information and periodic updates about the Hoopla, check out www.gaminghoopla.com. You can also join our BGG conversation in the Conventions forum here: 2011 Fall Gaming Hoopla!

If you have any questions, please comment here, or email me at gaminghoopla@gmail.com.

Back to the Dungeon!

Grab that 10 foot pole and 50 feet of rope! Have you got your weapons and armor? Do you know where your spellbook is? It's time to go back into the depths of the dungeon, kill things, and take their stuff. This is a classic "dungeon crawl" using the Original D&D rules.

One of very few games played at every Hoopla! The year is 79 A.D. Pompeii, sitting at the foot of Vesuvius, is at the high point in its development. People come to the city from far and wide to try and make their luck in the city. So far nobody has dreamed of the danger that will bury all of their dreams under mountains of ash not ten years later. Who will survive the eruption of Vesuvius unscathed? The simple rules make it easy to get started with this game by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, one in which a lot of tactical know-how is required. But a little luck is needed too, in order to bring your pieces out of the city at the right time and have this unconventional board game decided in your favour.

This strategic railroad game extends from the first of America's railroads through the golden age of steam, where pioneering rail barons knit together the fledgling United States with iron roads, realizing the full power of the nation's mighty heartland. Each player takes the roles of railroad presidents and their wealthy investors, betting that their capital gambles will pay off handsomely. Baltimore and Ohio is not a game of luck or chance, but a competitive struggle of wits, savvy and guile. With the resources at hand, should you focus on further expansion, technological breakthroughs or emerging markets?

It's the 19th Century, and you have come to the lush tropical jungles of Amazonas in search of rare plants and animals. You must explore the twisting paths and waterways, leading your expedition from one village to another. Each village offers an opportunity to establish a new outpost. But beware - the Amazonas is not for the timid! Fearsome crocodiles lurk in the tepid waters of the rivers, and hungry jaguars stalk the twilight paths. Do not shy from such dangers too long, for the cost to build a new outpost increases the longer it takes you to reach each new village. Your funds are very limited, so speed is essential. Your sponsor has also sent you a secret directive. You must fulfill the demands of this special mission, or you will lose much of your newly earned fame! Can you face the dangers of an unknown jungle and earn fame and recognition? Or will another explorer surpass you on the way to glory? Find out when you enter the land of Amazonas!

The players act as traders trying to get victory points for building a network of offices, controlling cities, collecting bonus markers or for other traders using the cities they control. After controlling a line between two cities with your pawns you can decide to build an office (and maybe also establish control and/or get a bonus marker) or to get a skill improvement from some of the cities. Players have to improve their traders' "skills" for the following effects: getting more VP from offices in their network, getting more available action points, increasing the number of available pawns, and getting the right to place pawns and get more special pawns. If we have more than 5 players, a second copy of the game will be played at a second table.
