There was a lot of good gaming-longer organised games, non-euro games and ones that came from a long family of games.

Tim and Elaine taught Eric and myself in this deep Euro game. It takes some time to explain the rules and I only finally got it after a few rounds, but this was a good game to play, using both the part of the brain great for Euro-games and dice to have a degree of luck. Eric won on 53 points, I came 2nd on 28 48, Tim scored 45 and Elaine finished on 42.

This puzzle, deduction game would suit those who like games like Mastermind. There are different numbers on tiles. Everyone knows what possible numbers there are, how many of each number there are and what colour/s they are. Each player has 3 numbers that they cannot see but that all other players can, with all numbers having a colour and a distribution.

Each player takes turns to ask a random preset question (such as do I see more red or pink numbers?). Based on the answer, each player tries to guess what numbers they have, getting a new set of 3 each time they attempt a guess. Guess 3 times correctly to win!

I really enjoyed this deduction game, but I think it requires the correct group to play with to make it a fun (as opposed to just an intellectually rigorous) experience. In our 5 player game, Richard correctly won, with Elaine and Jason guessing twice correctly, and Genevieve and I guessing once correctly.

There were 5 games played during the day, with me being involved in 4 of them. All of them involved random cards from all 6 Dominions sets.

In game 1, Simon won with 27 over myself 24, David 22 and Elaine 6.
In game 2, Simon and I jointly won on 24 over Jason 24 (tiebreak rule), Hong 21 and Richard 3.
In game 3, Simon won on 38 over Jason 37, myself 27 and Hong 8.
In game 4, Hong won on 23 over myself 22, Simon/David 8 and Jason 4.

I have no idea of the result in the game involving Jason, Genevieve and Richard.

Settlers go to America with a different theme and winning condition (settle America and deliver to other players' cities) but the same familiars in hexes, dice rolling to collect resources, trading resources and building. This is one which will benefit after some repeated plays.

Hong won over Richard, Jason and myself.

Given how heavily polluting our companies were, there were many times where industrial accidents happen (that's not the correct name but it's the card that you don't want to come out when you've highly polluted) where we had too much pollution and were forced to pay fines and have our companies go backwards.

As Simon said while watching us, "Why are people letting you run their companies, you homicidal maniacs?!?"

Hong 'I'll produce very little pollution' won on 51, over Jason 'fire the workers!' on 44, myself 'be efficient, use less raw materials' on 42 and Richard 'debt, debt!' on 28.

Trish, Ian and I got things going with an old favourite. I haven't played in a while and was rusty to start (excuses!). Close one in the end, decided by our guilds six-cost developments.

Ian for the win on 39, Trish tail-gating on 38 and me bringing in the rear on 37.

I managed to get in two games of San Marco (thanks again Jason F.).

1st was with Trish and Ian. First time for both of them and they enjoyed it, with Trish dominating for the win.

I later cajoled Eric and Kim into trying this one out (also a learning game for both of them). The consensus was that they would like to try it again some time as it took a few go's to get the balance right in the offers. Kim
for the win in this game (I think).

San Marco is arguably the best 3p game around - try it if you haven't already!

Hong was looking to play some fluff whilst waiting for a potential Powergrid opponent. We got in two games of Seks Nimmt (sp) in about 15min - pretty good going when the box puts playing time for one game at 45!

Oh, it was Hong, Kim and I playing and Kim won (I think).

Eric and Kim wanted to get some inspiration for their impending game of Ikusa (Eric's house, Sunday morning). We dusted off the much-neglected WABA copy of Shogun and gave the old girl a run.

Lucky for me, Eric and Kim were so wrapped up in their own personal vendetta that they let me cruise to an easy victory.

It was good to get a full two year game in. The board felt a bit empty with only three playing (even without the 3 player-remover territories). Got to love that dice tower though

Me Kim and Hong played a 3-player game of this.

It's the second game for all of us, so we have some ideas about how to play.

Hong won the game outright with 89 points or something, Kim on 75-ish and I'm languishing last on 55-ish, beign too greedy and collecting set of cards to try to put them out at once.

Fun game, we finish the game in probably 45 minutes which is a good length too.
