Maybe the only people in the room who have never played Settlers, Jess and I sat down to learn this one as a two player game. Warren walked by and saw us looking through the rules and offered to teach it, and invited Chris to join us too.

I am pretty sure Warren regretted the offer as he had one of the most unlucky games you could imagine with his areas not paying off at all for the first half of the game and basically just having to watch us play.

Jess ran away with the game (and would now like to get a copy We bought it on the iPad this week, so that should suffice.)

Then we (Jess and I) joined Liz and Tim who were just learning Zooloretto (which we had played before). I like it OK, but I don't really find it very exciting. I certainly prefer Coloretto.

But, it was fine. I am pretty sure Liz one it.

I always play too conservatively.

Then we played my most recent game purchase, Rune Age.

I never got into Dominion (I've only played it once and found it to be all mechanic, and little game).

Anyway, so far I am really enjoying this game (This was play three).

Tim won, even though it was his first game.

Lastly, we learned another classic that we've never played - For Sale. Super quick, super easy and fun too. Think I'll pick up a copy for myself.

Tim won this one too.

This didn't have the tension as much as full blown Arkham Horror, but neither did it have the hours of play time either.

Perhaps we were just having a good day, there were tense moments, but there wasn't that descent into grimness that hallmarks so many Mythos games.

Perhaps a bit mechanistic with all the dice rolling and not much roleplaying.

But thanks for lending it to us to try, er, Tim I think it was?

A great little filler which involves gamers young and old. Those gamers who took it for what it was had a great time but there was dissent from more "serious" gamers.

Overall, it's fun to watch your android lose its limbs and to try and out guess your opponents.

Good solid filler for the collection

Another dice rolling game this time, you're a monster terrorising Tokyo! The game between Eric, Roland, Tim, Mark and I was epic with lots of monsters dying. Somehow I snagged the "Death eater" card for my Alien Monster who ate the dead to get more victory points.

I somehow won the game without ever once setting foot in Tokyo

In the 2nd game at the end of the day, I won similarly but was actually in Tokyo for a bit. A lucky roll got me the final points before any of the remaining monsters who would have also won that turn.

Fun game which is dangerously climbing up my want list.

Kudos to Tim and Graeme for teaching me this game which I've wanted to learn and play forever.

Basically it's a normal deck of cards with 4 extra cards and a few rules and that's about it. However, it makes the game AWESOME! Easily my favourite game in a while, so simple yet great.

The crux of the game comes down to calling "tichu" and that caused all mayhem in our games.

I tried an early "grand tichu" and lost badly leading Graeme and I down like 300 points to Tim and Warren on positive 150 something. Tim got dealt an awesome hand and the only way he could be beat is if someone played an 8 card straight to beat his ... which I did From here, Graeme and I staged a massive come back to level the scords at somewhere around the 400 mark where we all agreed to discontinue the game.

It was fantastic and would definitely love to play this game again and teach it. So much fun!

For my first game at WABA I brought along 2 favourites, Glen More and Alien Frontiers. We tried a 3 player game of Glen More which, despite my getting a couple of rules wrong (to make a chieftain you have to use up a 'move' action, not do it for free) we had a good game. Very close scores at the end.

Only downside was that I left a couple of pieces behind, fortunately found by others later.

Regards,

Misha

Renato playing as Gaeta
Tyrone as Boomer
Steve as Chief Tyrol
Ernest as (? forgotten the 2 character combo he played due to execution)
Myself as Starbuck (who would have thought?)

playing with the Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game – Pegasus Expansion board and cylon fleet board from Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game – Exodus Expansion

With the first couple of turns being a quick slap in the face for the human fleet, the game eventually leveled out towards an end game with the humans looking "reasonable" for the final jump to safety.

Well after the sleeper phase we saw food getting perilously low, Boomer stuck in the brig along side the insubordinate Starbuck (who was amassing an impressive collection of suspicion and accusations of cylon like deviancy from the other crew members), a growing but relatively infrequent cylon battle fleet was brewing, an incresing FTL spool with only 2 distance left to jump, an overly promoted Pra-cag-miral Gaeta and ... no revealed cylons?

Following a quick, but well intentioned "critique" by Renato of the hidden cylon player/s choice of play style, the two cylons eventually admitted their guilt and shame at misleading the poor humans and proceeded on the path of self-discovery and soul healing by embarking on some internal bombing of Galactica and acquiring super crisis cards.

A near crippled and smoking Galactica was eventually swamped by large swarms of cylon raiders. 32 dice rolls against the Galactica itself saw just enough 8's appear to inflict enough damage to ignite the biggest bonfire party the human fleet had ever seen and nary a marshmellow to roast upon it was in sight due to the food shortage. The Galactica was strewn across the galaxy in little bits. A grand ending if I may say so...I have always wanted to see it end this way.

The nefarious cylons in the end?

Shane who played a shrewd, under the radar like game. Well played.

No surprises for guessing who ended up being the second cylon. The sun will burn out and gravity flip on its head before we ever see a game with Ernest playing where he is not at one with his inner cylon.

Bought this to play with Warren, but ended up playing with Leece and Rob and Elaine. Elaine won with a successful long haul. Afterwards, I reread the rules, and found that I had erred - when you roll the four dice the first time, you have to create two pairs and use both of them. This would have slowed the game down a bit and added more tension. A classic Sid Sackson game.

I introduced this to Warren, who was wanting to play it (is in the list of the first 25 games listed in BGG). We had three games, and Warren was kind enough to say that he enjoyed it. A few people commented that they remembered playing it along time ago. Perhaps I'll bring it to another meeting for a bit of nostalgic gaming..

16. Board Game: We Play Store [Average Rating:0.00 Unranked]

OK. So we didn't really play this. But one of the items mentioned at the AGM was that WABA have a storage problem - roughly 150 games in the library, and rising steadily.

If we keep adding games, then we're going to keep running out of storage space. Time for a bit of lateral thinking. Perhaps members could borrow a few games, and store them at home (I must have storage space for at least, ah, let me see, three more games). There are two advantages of this approach - we don't need as much static WABA storage, and the games are possibly played in between gaming sessions. The downside is we need some form of control (so games don't mysteriously disappear), and we need to make sure pieces don't go missing. And the games may not be available for sessions at Thornlie, or not available if the member is unable to make a meeting.

An alternative approach is to limit the number of games to the available storage. This requires culling games. The problem here is that if we decide a game is not very popular, and therefore should be removed from the collection, there probably isn't much interest in members buying the game (for example, at an auction). And I doubt anyone is terribly interested in flogging them on eBay, unless they get a healthy commission.

Maybe the optimum solution is a bit of both - members borrowing games, plus a cap on the number of games in the WABA collection.

Anyway, this is a matter we should all turn our minds to. The problem is a WABA one - lets see if we can help the commitee solve it.
