As far as I can tell this is the original 1977 Avalon Hill edition, with grey box. The box has had a hard life - significant damage to the edges, plus one edge/corner fixed with clear tape. The cover has escaped relatively unscathed. Bottom half of the box in excellent condition, contents in excellent condition.
English Avalon Hill edition.
Free postage, will post to UK only

and I revisited this one. We have several other irons in the fire. I am waiting for Battles of the Bulge: Cellesto arrive which we plan to play next Friday. And, I will be traveling to the Houston area and taking with me the rules for Hitler's Last Gamble: The Battle of the Bulgeso we can play that one when I return.

We chose sides randomly and I was assigned the French again. I lost last month as the French and Snoopy danced. Would our favorite beagle do so again?

Below is our first big battle. Steven was consolidating his forces but had to block my movement with a smaller mixed Allied/Prussian force than he wanted.

And here is the battleboard:

That battle was won decisively by the French, who were then able to move to the right of the now concentrated Allies and on into Brussels. This gave the Allies no option but to attack the French forces in Brussels or continue to suffer the loss of one Allied and one Prussian unit a turn due to supply shortages. So, below is the final batttle which resulted in a French victory.

Interesting game. It was that first battle that severely weakened the Allied force and the move into Brussels sealed it. There was a constant flow of Allied reinforcements throughout the battle from a neighboring town, but coming in piecemeal only prolonged the battle.

There is nothing sadder than a sad Snoopy.

and I played the 1977 AH edition of Napoleon: The Waterloo Campaign, 1815.

We decided on sides randomly. Steven took the Anglo-Dutch/Prussians and I took the French.

Setup
The set up can be varied somewhat, each side choosing their setup towns on their side of the lines. Here is how it began for us. My French are strongest on my left where I intend to focus my attacks.

First Blood

A French attack on some Anglo-Dutch units before they can consolidate. The Allies retreated before battle losing a strength point in the process. Will I soon fulfill my destiny to be Emperor of Europe?

Preparing to Press the Attack

The Allies are trying to consolidate as the French move into position to attack again.

Outnumbered, the Allies choose to stand and Fight

The Brits are outnumbered but do not want to yield any more ground. Will Wellington "meet his Waterloo"?

Devastating French Loss!

The Allies were very accurate in their fire. The French took much greater losses and had to retreat, despite their superior strength at the battle's beginning. This also allowed the Allies more time to consolidate.

Napoleon Uncertain and Pessimistic

Steven took this quick photo of me pondering my next move after such a debacle

Desperate Situations Call for Desperate Measures

Here is a shot of the Battle of Brussels. Different place, but it will prove to have the same outcome as Waterloo.

Final Conflict
Weakened French forces could not win the Battle of Brussels. Again retreating, the remnants were joined by more French forces, but the Allies had consolidated to the point that any further attacks by the French would be almost certainly futile. But, we attacked anyway as the game reached its final day turn. The results were as expected. The French go down to defeat.

We had a good time with this. The battles are certainly more involved than Julius Caesar. I think Julius Caesar is deeper on a strategic level, and Napoleon: TWC 1815 deeper on a tactical level. While JC has initiative, N:TWC1815 has maneuver on the tactical level. Glad I acquired this game!

I played this game for the first time against an opponent how also had never played this game before. It was the Columbia Games 4th Edition with the extra wooden dice. I was the French with my opponent were the Allies.

I started with the idea of driving up the centre to divide the British, along with the Dutch and the Prussians. My first objective was Charleroi, which became the focal point of the game as it changed hands back and forth from the Prussians to the French and back again.

Both sides poured more and more units into Charleroi, however, it was the French that began to lose units significantly and with two routs against the French, the Prussians won the Battle of Charleroi, defeating Napoleon and changing the course of European history. The British never contributed in this game and were essentially a non-entity, although the red blocks on the map board looked nice, too bad they never made it to the battle board.

This was the first play for both of us playing, I'm sure that some of the rules were missed or not followed quite properly, but, the two of us had a grand time and would like to play again over the Christmas season if possible with our schedules.
