This game was published in a periodical issue. There is no distinct RPG Item for the game. The database currently does not have the functionality to link the periodical article presenting the game directly to this RPG entry; thus, the RPG entry remains with the periodical. The periodical, issue, author, and other salient details may be noted here in the description; interested users should refer to the periodical issue and article (if available) for complete details.
If the game is released in some other format in the future, it can be listed as an RPG Item.
Runes in Space was written by Niall Shapero with input from Kay Shapero and Chris Pettus. The game was developed from 1979 to 1981, and was published in its final format in The Lords of Chaos (Issue 12/13 - Jul 1981). The game started out as an adaptation (or "hack") of RuneQuest (1st & 2nd Editions) into a high-technology, science fiction setting, and the name was intended as a joke - but it stuck. Over the ensuing years the game was used in the author's campaign and continued to receive extensive revision, resulting in the gradual replacement of the rules system by system. The final state of the game was tabled in 1981, when the author began significant redevelopment from the ground up, for a game system that would be released commercially as Other Suns.
