We have an early screen shot from a not even near Alpha version of The Manhattan Project that runs on iOS and Windows. I actually played through a whole game using it. It is far enough along that I feel safe finally announcing we'll be having a Kickstarter in November to fund the further development of the game.

It supports single player with multiple levels of AI, pass and play and true multi-player over the Internet with iPad & PC inter-mixed. Stretch goals will be things like adding the Nations and making an Andriod version.

How much money does the kickstarter campaign need to raise, such that if you don't raise it the game won't be released?

We figure the bear minimum will be 30k and that's with the developer and Minion Games still contributing funds & time. But I think that's a doable figure.

No. Nations will be a stretch goal. Second Stage would only be considered if the campaign when wild (over $75k).

Remember, iOS copies of the game sold on Kickstarter still have to give Apple their 30%

This will not be your typical $1-3 app either, it'll be over $5 but under $10.

Why no Android support? I feel like I'm beating a dead horse every time I have to point this out, but it's the single largest platform out there and is the platform that the Shield uses.

That's not really an answer. Economics is the real answer. Sad to say as Android is probably cheaper to program to.

Large platform != profitable platform. App sales and revenue are far higher on ios, which is why it's generally targeted first.

Actually, it's not. Compatibility testing for android is a mess because they're so many variations of screen size/screen resolution/ram/process/etc. It's especially hard for a board game translation which has to present 2-d raster artwork and needs to utilize screen real estate very efficiently.

I keep hearing this, but it doesn't add up for me. It creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. You have a larger platform....but then you code primarily for the smaller platform and maybe...MAYBE create a sloppy port over to the larger platform later, then complain when your turn-through rate on the larger platform is smaller. Yes, when you neglect one platform, the other is going to do better.

This simple answer is there is a lot more work to get it to run in such an environment and so unless someone pays for that it doesn't get done.

Most sales are PC and iOS so Andriod gets less priority and is more work.

It doesn't have to add up for you, data is data. But whatever, I'm sure you know better than all these companies.

Made my day seeing this news!

Quick question, does true multiplayer mean live online or turn-based async? Or both?

Thanks

Live online I hope - that would rock and justify a premium price tag

Well my understanding of the very early code is that you can play online against other people live but you wait your turn. It does NOT use the Game Center yet (ever?)... but that's just the state it's in now and it's only a first swing at it.

I actually think async is the place to start. It allows you to play 'live' in a sense if each player keeps taking turns back and forth as well as play a slower turn based style. Agricola demonstrates this well. This game seems to be a great candidate for async play since all of the information you need to make a decision for your turn is on the table. A quick review of the game state and you can make your turn and pass back to the other player.

As someone who plays a ton of multiplayer board game apps, Game Center integration is a must to some degree to get the notifications, achievements, leaderboards.

But hey, since there isn't a defined direction yet, having both live online and turn-based online is of course the pipe dream. Make everyone happy!

Hi everyone!

Long time lurker, first time posting. I'm the app developer, and I'll say first, it's a huge honor to be working with Minion Games, and especially on such a highly regarded game. I'm having a blast so far making the game, and I think you're going to like it when it's in your hands.

biffta wrote:

Yup, it will support Live Online multiplayer play. The tech is in proof-of-concept state, but it does work, and I've already played games online against friends.

Android is definitely a possibility. I'm an Android user myself, so I would love to see it happen. Funding is an issue though, of course. I've been working on this project on spec for months, and I would need to at least recoup my costs before I could promise anything. I do hope the Kickstarter helps us here!
