I've seen worse - this is a thread about topping each other's tall story, right

The project was called Civil War General, a pc wargame - the guy asked for 100K and with this he was going to hire a programmer, a graphics guy, sound, music, office space, computers ... Basically his "contribution" to the project amounted to having the "he, let's make a civil war game" idea.

Wait a sec, the numbers don't add up.

There are two levels:
$125 dollars for a standard game, and this is limited ot 250 copies.
$500 dollars for a Premium edition (unlimited)

So even if this guy sells all 250 standard editions, that's $31,250. So he needs to sell another 438 of the premium editions to fund.

438 people to spend $500 (in thre US only as there's no international option) on a roll and move game.

Wow

"Start the race, roll your dice move around the track and as you roll numeric dice and the red and yellow flag dice the outcome move you"

Quite the confidence builder!

I can already name 2 games that cover this market. Formula D covers the roll and move racing market (and is a great game I might add), and even the old Daytona 500 game is nascar with bidding for cars, car movement with cards to play, drafting, and is a oddly entertaining game (especially for me, not being a nascar fan).

I guess good luck to the guy. but it basically looks like he wants to make Daytona 500... which already exists.

He's from Tennessee. Being from North Carolina myself, I know there are people in that area who think the world revolves around NASCAR. Apparently, he's one of them.

Aside from the prementioned issues, this guy thinks it's no big deal to quickly get licensing from all those companies to use their names and logos? It doesn't seem like he even has a rough estimate of what each might charge for licensing. And how many was he planning on having? Assuming the game has a minimum of 4 players, you would expect each player to have a few sponsors each, so at a minimum of 12 big name companies. Or is it a two player game?

Or more importantly is it even a game? All I see is a hodgepodge of movements, and imprecise promises of grandure that can only be in the imagination.

Yeah, amongst all the "what were they thinking /drinking" projects I've browsed these last months, this one is certainly top 10 material.
I try to read up on every new tabletop KS, and I sincerely hope the average KS creator is not your average Joe, because otherwise we would be in serious trouble.

Dear KS wannabees: At least TRY to have a game hidden somewhere in your wall of text. And use an editor, or at least a spell checker. Have someone else review your page, preferably sober. Think really hard about NOT posting your KS. Oh, and don't forget pesky details like copyrights and trademarks.

What spot is HQ occupying in the Ouch list, by the way?

Projects like this actually make me really happy that Kickstarter exists. Not for the trainwreck entertainment value of looking at such a loopy project--entertaining as it may be, in a kinda cruel way--but because in years past, this cat woulda mortgaged his house to go hip deep into a terrible business plan. There's nothing sadder than going to a toy and game show and seeing schlemiels with their booths, piles of ill-considered games stacked behind them. At least with KS, these ideas can crash and burn in virtual space before life's savings are sucked into the void.

Awww, gee.

Ok, I'll let you have your opinion even though I differ. I freely admit two things:

1) I do follow the races

2) I do accept the shorthand description that "NASCAR is soap opera for men."

but I'm pretty confident the same applies for some other professonal sports, as well.
