Oh, no, that's totally a thing. Kickstarter has a whole section dedicated just to playing cards:

https://www.kickstarter.com/discover/categories/games/playin...

I did it. I designed a deck of cards, ran a Kickstarter, and had them printed by Bicycle.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/786438508/plugged-nicke...

I also collect interesting decks of cards, many of which I buy through Kickstarter. So having a Kickstarter for a custom deck of cards is totally a thing.

And while the artwork looked competently drawn, it's a rather ordinary cartoon style, so it's not really anything you'd Kickstart for artistic reasons.

OK now this, yes. That's not a deck I would back. There's not a lot interesting there. The deck design is uninspired, the cards aren't symmetrical (not a requirement, but I won't back a deck if it's not) and they aren't even saying where they're printing, so you're probably getting cheap cards. There's no image of the uncut sheet and no shot of the card backs. There's no color communication and no pip design. The indicia are hard to read and the colors are flat and unappealing.

Designing a deck of cards is a lot more than just drawing some stuff, and this deck is not a good deck of cards.

Ah, let me rephrase: it makes little sense to have a Kickstarter for it in the "Tabletop Games" category.

By the way, here's another example of a Kickstarter in the boardgames category that doesn't really belong there, and doesn't look like it will be especially successful either:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/244214896/draw-your-rol...

Basically, someone taking commissions for drawing characters, at prices similar to what professional artists may charge for quick commissions at comics/boardgaming conventions and similar, except here with somewhat less than professional drawing quality.

They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”

Just had a look at that and I am really impressed. Those cards (and dice) look great - very well designed indeed.

These cards do not belong on this thread (I know they're here just as an example) other than as an object lesson as to what is possible with a well run and well thought out KS campaign offering a quality product at the end.

I'm not sure he understands what hands look like or how they work. Most of what I saw were 3 fingered (or less) and had a very... interesting grip on whatever they were holding.

Not to mention that I thought his art style in general was ugly - no way would I pay for that!

I wish I'd had those the last time I ran a Deadlands RPG campaign. They would be perfect.

The faces bother me. The mouth is often not centered beneath the nose, but off to one side. The chin on some is offset in the other direction. The guy with the pointy ears has one ear closer to his eyes than the other.

Thanks! I don't actually have any stock left (aside from the couple bricks I kept for myself), but there a few decks still floating around. The Amazon link Corey posted is a pretty good deal.

My favorite part of the video is when he insists that that she rolls the dice for each of her turns and also make doubles rerolls despite the fact that it is obvious that she is locked and has no legal moves.

Couldn't watch the whole video. That guy just makes me want to punch him in the face. He's sitting there, laughing at his partner because he's beating her, when she was nice and is helping him with the preview. He claps his hands in excitement like a child, and when he's about to lose his first piece he tells himself out loud "it's ok, it's just a preview" like he has to calm himself to avoid a panic attack or something.

Above the video he writes that his partner sometimes forgets it's a preview because she's "naturally enthusiastic", but from what I saw she was calm and explained things pretty well, and he was the one that was manically enthusiastic over every good move he made, and kept forgetting that it was being filmed.

And he really really likes to rub it in her face every time she's forced to make a bad move.

He just really seemed like the most disagreeable kind of person to me… yuk

"I'm a champion, don't forget that"....???

He is faster than her...

This is bad because the game itself is probably okay, the guys obviously have some design skills but... why the hell does this campaign focus so much more on the "losing friend" gag than the actual game itself? It really turned me off even trying to decode the tiny card pictures.

Well, it doesn't exactly attract me to back it, for a few reasons:

- Messy layout and typography on the campaign page, making it kind of hard to read; especially the explanation of how the game plays.

- As far as I could understand the gameplay description, it felt fairly meh: half-blind bidding, simple co-op with a resource chicken race with other players (contribute as little as possible, but enough to collectively defeat the monsters). Your success in the game may depend a lot on what cards you randomly get at the start.

- No shipping information.

- Price: US$25 (early bird US$17). Components: 52 cards and eight wooden cubes. Not completely unreasonable, but not exactly cheap either.

- Artwork: very standard anime style, possibly from some stock image archive. Not a problem, but not a selling point either.

... and it's back:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1771383530/gunfights-an...

now with a video clip that gives some hints about the gameplay, but no actual details. It's a card game, for 2-4 players, with an Old West theme, and apparently there's a minigame inside it, but that's about all we get to know.

It could potentially be an OK game, but the campaign page doesn't do anything to show that.

And the reward list is back to being longer than the campaign description.

When they wrote "rouge" in red I had no idea if it was a spelling mistake for the word "rogue" or they actually named the card that.
