Been thinking about ToC v2.0 lately. I hope to spend some significant time on ToC v2.0 this winter. There really isn't that much to do. Cross posting this from another board on BGG

Actually was going thru the card revisions I want to make last night. I want to build in more tough choices for RED (I never thought they had enough tension in their card choices) and prune out the must play events (like RED army reorganizes) and any cards that never get played ("Ukraine's Violation).

Map? Did those changes last weekend. I want to double the size (primarily just enlarge it). Will add a few hexes in the east - and then something that simulates the war in the far east (Vladivostok will get a space on the map...plus "Green Ukraine" - and a number of other places on the Trans Siberian railroad). So instead of using a standard 24 x 36, we'll use a 48 x 36.

Counters? Found a few obscure units to add (I thought I had them all!). Other than that, minimal changes. One thing I am toying with is adding a "reliability" rating to some of the units...they fail a test, pooof...gone (which did happen quite often). If I do add it, it will be very simple (and brutal!).

Most the rules changes are a result of play from 2008 > 2013 (since v1.5 of rules covered everything else) - I've been keeping a suggestion list (from the players) the last 5 years. I'll also be simplifying, somewhat, the Ukraine and Poland rules: I think I have an interesting dynamic for that. Also trying to simplify/clarify a few other Faction's rules (ex: Finland). I also am planning at taking a run at the Victory Conditions: have an idea for that. Otherwise, I don't plan to change much.

The biggest work is probably on the research side. I plan to re-read a number of titles to see if I reflected the historical dynamics, now that I'm a little smarter on the Russian Civil War than I was a decade ago when I started designing ToC and that I have an existing design.

Just finished a solo game of ToC a few days ago (inspired by Calendale).

I'll be your third pre-order.

Any thought as to when you might be sending this to COA, and/or when it gets released?

Sooner than later; if I can work out in it (this winter), I want to see it out in 2014. Really, there is not that much to do; I've been thinking about it for quite some time.

Sooner would be better than later, but Clash does have some big items that will be potential releases in 2014 - Legion of Honor, La Bataille de Dresde, and another Battles from the Age of Reason title. Might be tought to squeeze that in, but I'm sure Ed would try.

Agree. If I can get ToC v2 ready, I'm sure Ed will squeeze in - given how well ToC sold for Clash.

I would agree with the comments you got on CSW, that the rules need a complete overhaul.

I don't agree with the graphics criticisms, the stones are quirky but seem like they should work and the graphics give great flavor.

The rules though need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Don't rush it so fast that this isn't done properly.

Thank you for the input; I will be reviewing the art on the counters & cards (I agree with some of your points) - I've learned a few things about illustrator since I first did that art 8 years ago.

Playing ToC again (on Vassal....week nights later this week). Very helpful at rediscovering what I want to update in ToC v2.

Count me in, even though I'm a proud owner a ToC and Comrade's guide.

Do you think you could go an extra mile and do a mounted board?

Mounted board? Let me check with Ed at Clash; my guess is that it would drive the cost up significantly - since this is going be a double mapper (two standards maps) (plus shipping costs).

Thank you for your support.

Re: Possible ToC v2.0 on the plate
I would easily preorder this the day it is offered. I have played 20+ FtF games of Triumph..and have never had a game that even has come close to being the same or boring. This is my favorite CDG of all time and cannot express my love for it enough . I may be amongst a minority, but I really liked the map (it is what got me to buy the game in the first place). This game certainly isn't for the faint of heart though...it's brutal and my first 5-8 games we made so many tactical mistakes that we stopped counting...

But again..thank you for bringing this game into being..........the only thing I would suggest would be Triumph of Facism..Ahem....

Thank you for the kind words. Spent the last few days sorting thru the war in Siberia (a few books for X-mas). Think I got a handle on it and a way to model it.

Two maps? Rats. Any thought to whether there would also be an update kit for ToC 1.0?

Put me down for a pre-order too. My 2nd favourite CDG, sorry Paths of Glory still just does it for me. But with a new version, 2 maps, new units, you never know it may go up.......
