"Gamers are Red, Gamers are Blue"
The Red Sashes are red,
the Silverstars are blue,
you gave me a mandatory quest,
and I love you.
King Arthur is red,
Sir Kay is blue,
why did you place a catapult?
I still love you.
The assassin is red,
Merlin is blue,
You sabotaged the mission,
I kind of love you.
Autumn is red,
winter is blue,
you played Thieving Fairies,
I guess I love you.
Stamina is red,
sanity is blue,
you sealed Cthulhu in R'lyeh,
and I love you.
There is no other game that can compare,
to the game of life I play with you.
And we win and won, because we are us.
Roll true my love and victory is ours.
If I should think of love
I'd think of you, your arms uplifted,
Shaking those dice in hands above,
The lyre shape of your arms and shoulders,
The soft clack of dice in hand.
No melody is sweeter, nor could Orpheus
So have bewitched me. I think of this,
And all my universe becomes perfection.
But were you to roll true, dear love,
The happiness would take my breath away,
No thought could match that ecstasy,
No song encompass it, no core worlds.
If I should think of love,
I'd think of you, rolling true.

Yes, I will be judging!
How will I judge?
What will I be looking for?
Well, consider this:
I am a romantic (so maybe that will work), and...
I am a self-promoter of Stronghold Games (duh, I have to be...so maybe that will work), and...
I am a beer-lover (as many of you know, so maybe that will work), and...
I am a gamer of course (so maybe that will work)!
In any case, thank you to Blue Peg, Pink Peg for doing this, and THANK YOU ALL in advance for participating!

And I am watching
The Song of Buonocore, Chapter 4 (apologies to Solomon)
1 Behold, thou art fair, my love;
behold, thou art fair;
thou hast sheep’s eyes within the space of thy curls:
thy hair is as a flock of ewes,
that appear from the Lambda sector.
2 Thy teeth are like a forest of crazy creatures that are doomed,
which came up from the mad mansion;
whereof every one mutates,
and none is common among them.
3 Thy lips are like a vampire’s,
and thine identity is hidden:
Thine empire is like a city outside a castle.
4 Thy neck is like an outpost builded for a colony,
wherein there lie a thousand factories,
all counters of mighty colonists/robots.
5 Thy two breasts are like two little devils that are twins,
which hide among the tricks.
6 Until the train departs,
and the outlaws flee away,
I will get me to the bank at Repentance Springs,
and to the Canyon of Whiskey.
7 Thou art all clean, my love;
there is no CO2 in thee.
8 Come with me from the Old West, my spouse,
with me from Malpaso:
look from the top of the church,
from the top of the jailhouse and the livery stable,
from Los Quantos Bridge,
from the mountain of the Silver Mine.
9 Thou hast ravished my heart, my rogue, my agent;
thou hast ravished my heart with one of thy dice,
with one roll of thy dice.
10 How fair is thy love, my rogue, my agent!
How much better is thine influence than crime!
and the evidence of thine investigations than all assassins!
11 Thy lips, O my spouse, gush as the oil wells:
crude oil and gasoline are in thy stock;
and the smell of thy drilling is like the smell of cash.
12 An island of survival is my explorer, my spouse;
a spring opened up, a fountain unleashed.
13 Thine eyes are an ocean of sharks, with terrible fins;
and teeth, as knives,
14 Whales with tails;
massive and blue,
with all manner of strength;
Serpents of the sea,
monsters of terror:
15 A ship of safety,
a dolphin of aid,
and shores of shelter.
16 Awake, O Captain;
and come, thou Helm;
lock upon the object of my love,
that the tractor beam thereof may seize.
Let my beloved come into his Stronghold,
and play his pleasant games.
(Stephen, if you choose my entry, I insist that you read it for the podcast!)
The OUTPOST of lost love was where I spend most my days
Until you VOLUSPA'd my heart with your SPACE CADETS ways.
Put down your REVOLVER it's not just a pick-up line
We could make MILESTONES of our CORE WORLDS if you'll only be mine.
Don't make me a ROGUE AGENT by saying no
I'll be GOING,GOING,GONE! though if you said so.
One final thought my Valentine, then I'll let you be...
You are the only victory condition that matters to me.
Just FYI Scrabble is my wife's favorite game.

Weapons are red
Shields are blue.
Your mix-up cost us the Dice Duel
But I still love you.
For my husband
This is Angela (from Canada), for my husband James.
It’s Valentine’s Day,
and instead of fine dining
We’re home at our table,
but we are not pining.
You’ve just tallied up
our points of San Juan
and again you have trumped me
by a whopping twenty-one.
Before that it was Smallworld
And I used the rats
They overpowered your hill hobbits
And that was just that.
We stopped for some dinner
That you had to prepare
Because you lost at Kingsburg
So it was only fair.
Our night will continue
with Mage Knight and flowers
I’ll get to be Tovak
And take over your towers
The best thing about this
is that this isn’t special
We play games quite often,
though sometimes we wrestle.
My happiness comes,
not from flowers and dinners
But time spent with you
As losers and winners.
Each new game purchased
logs us more time
To laugh and to tease
And that’s just divine.
Check the Great Big Table podcast (http://greatbigtable.com), a podcast about expanding the board game hobby.
Always for the First Time (A board gamer valentine parody of Andre Breton's Always for the First Time)
Always for the first time
Hardly do I know the rules by sight
You return at some hour after I start to the board at an angle to my seat
A wholly imaginary board
A play scape that changes from one second to the next
In the course of the game
I anticipate once more the quizzical looks occurring
One of many looks
In hurts me in my heart
The closer I get to finishing my explanation
Of describing the game
The more you look at me as if you don't know what the hell I'm saying
Then I take to the time to address you alone
It seems to be working as I see the spark of understanding
The curtain is lifting
We see the board together with roads and intersections and areas to control
With the obvious areas for your workers to be placing
Behind them the resources that are no longer there
While bright futures seem to exist under other players' control
And then the curtain has lifted
In a frenzy you place all your workers
It is your newly discovered strategy that rouses you from impending sleep
You are the best gamer that you can be
The gamer that I will rarely meet
You pretend not to notice me scrutinizing your strategy
Marvelously I even think that you may not know
That I see a flaw in your plan
A swarm of interpretation surrounds each of your moves
It's a "what do you do" hunt
There are chairs around the table and soda that may catch you in the fridge
There's the game shop window of Notre Game on Delorrette street
There is a field of legs of those standing and watching
There is a stomach flaring out of a muffin top pant cover
There is a battle mat rolled out on the next table
There is... distraction
As I lean over the table
Aware of your presence and absence among the confusion
I find the secret to beating you
Always for the first time.
From the shores of Catan
to the Cathedrals and cloisters of Carcassonne.
From the Milestones of Macao
to the Panic Stations of the Qin dynasty.
From the Heroscape of this Small World
to the Space Alerts of the Core Worlds and the Twilight Emperium.
I will be with you.
Your dice are pink,
My dice are blue.
If you'll share your sheep,
My wood's all for you.
Happy Voluspa Day!!
To the tune of a lovely romantic song, Two of Us by the Beatles...
Two of us placing meeples
Putting sheeples in our farm
I need to sow some wheat but
You’ve got me beat ‘cause you took that space first!
I gotta get Food
How can I get Food?
I just need one Food!
Two of us on a starship
Locking targets— need more power
You and me rolling dice and
Scanning twice and need to fire torpedoes.
We’ve got no torpedoes.
Did you build torpedoes?
No, you were torpedoes!
You and I have memories
Of games we’ve lost and games we’ve won
And the fun we’ve had...
Two of us laughing madly
‘Cause you’ve sadly lost again!
You and me waitin’ for Sunday
It’s the one day we can buy new games.
And then bring them home.
We’ll play them at home.
We love it at home.
We’re going home.
Edit: Thanks for the contest!

You have a STRONGHOLD on me
so quick playing GAMES with my heart.
Please be my Valentine.
My words may seem CRUDE and clumsy,
But you are my CORE WORLD
And I cannot SURVIVE without you.
Don’t let those LITTLE DEVILS in your head
Play MIND GAMES with me,
For I’d gladly battle the entire VAMPIRE EMPIRE
To be with you.
I’d be your SPACE CADET that saves you in the OUTPOST from the CO2 leak.
Be my Valentine, that I can stop being so weak.

Your worker is red
My tokens are blue
Earning victory points is fun
But its more fun with you!
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways
Our top three games, they correlate exact
Our games of Mage Knight spanned multiple days
And Summoners, their Wars the table wracked
The dance of runner versus corps is won
Expansions bought, and not one deck is built
And yet more games will create hours of fun
Our vast collection grows and there's no guilt
No punches pulled, no quarter given too
My perfect partner: Knows it's just a game.
We analyse, discuss, laugh and review,
And pity all whose spouses still refrain.
Analysis paralysis? There's none.
For thee, my dear, most clearly are the One
To My Lover, Upon Her Defeat in a Game of Voluspa
To My Lover, Upon Her Defeat in a Game of Voluspa
I peer hard at tiles sprawled like fingers splayed:
This column sealed by Loki's trickster gaze,
Fenrir howls, pack cut down by Skadi's trade,
Odin's beard mocking the best of my plays.
Then like clouds parting, revealing the sun,
All becomes clear and my Serpent's revealed.
Sixteen open spaces! The game is won!
One simple tile and our destiny's sealed.
Some games are played to tear lovers apart,
A vic'try for one ensures their demise;
But we play games to secure heart to heart,
Time spent together the worthier prize.
And as in life, we stack our tiles anew;
A game lost to me, my heart lost to you.
A Strategic Error
I do enjoy playing a game or two
With you on a cold Valentine night
But honey could you please
Unlock the door and let me back inside
I may have insinuated
That your strategy was less than ideal
But wherever you decide to place your meeple
It is too cold outside for people
Blue Peg, Pink Peg Gaming Podcast
these are some great entries!
Blue Peg, Pink Peg Gaming Podcast
glad I dont have to pick.
While I plan my turn and my brain does burn,
Without any bother you'll bring me a lager
You save our lives in the duel of dice,
As you shield our ship from an enemy hit.
You'll leave me alive in the game of Survive.
You'll dive the sea monster away from my roster.
Voluspa is next as we win this contest.
I'll help all I can, like you do for me.
I'll place the first Valkyrie, which we can agree,
will help you score when you place yours.
