Here's another alternate method for using all the Colty and McReady deck cards, from the Revolver expansion packs. This is preferable to shuffling all your expansion cards straight into your deck, causing them to become unwieldy and inefficient - ultimately making the game less satisfying.

For some, it is also preferable to spending 5-10 minutes choosing cards to put into your deck, and selecting other cards for removal.

A quick and dirty system for you cowpunchers who like such things:

'Furnace Creek' Variant Rules

1. Both players gather together all the deck-construction expansion cards specifically for their faction: McReady and Colty.

2. Both players now shuffle these mini-decks (approx 46 cards apiece, with all 5 expansions), and then place this new deck in front of them, facedown.

3. Each player looks at the top six cards of these new decks. Then, each player must choose one card to keep, discarding the other five cards - these are returned to the game box.

4. Repeat step #3 until you have been right through your expansion card mini-deck.

5. Shuffle the cards you decided to keep. Next, shuffle these cards into your 'normal' draw deck.

6. Start the game.

This process should take no more than a minute or two, and your deck size will not increase beyond 70 cards - which is perfectly manageable.

You can use this drafting system with any or all of the expansion packs. Obviously, the less packs you use, the less cards you will draft.

If you end the process with a hand that features only one card: discard it.

If you end the process with a hand that features between 2 and 5 cards: choose one card to keep, discard the rest.

All comments and suggestions welcome!

Do you think both players should do it at once so that they know what the opponent is choosing as well?

Also, could the Frontier deck be drafted by both parties? (from 6, each keep 1, discard the rest) That way the coin system would just draw from your deck rather than specializing on the slimmer, Frontier deck. Would allow more variety than crazy drawing for Three Toes.

Players should choose discreetly.

You could try this and report back!
