Hello all, I'm going to be in NY for a wedding and I've got a bit of free time while my wife gets a manicure with all the other bride maids (bride matrons?). I especially have some free time on Thursday. We'll be staying in Brooklyn, any good FLGS I could check out or some geeks that get together I could join?

Hi Sean,

Unfortunately you happen to be coming on an off week for the Boardgame Meetup that gathers every other Thursday at Neutral Ground. The website for the club is http://boardgames.meetup.com/23/ and it's meeting this Thursday (Aug. 3) and then not until August 17th I believe.

However, you should still check out Neutral Ground, which is one of the two eurogame FLGS in NYC. It's located at 122 West 26th Street and is online at http://www.neutralground.com/

The other FLGS to check out is Compleat Strategist, which is at 11 East 33rd Street and is online at http://www.thecompleatstrategist.com/

Both stores are considerably more expensive than shopping online, but it's still fun to browse the games in person and both have decent selection to browse. Neutral Ground is a much larger store with a big area to play games, although I think it actually packs a smaller selection of eurogames into that space. Neutral Ground also focuses a fair bit on CCG's like Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. On the other hand, Compleat Strategist is a much smaller space, but really packs a lot of games into that space, but not really any room to play, and in addition to eurogames carries more RPGs and Warhammer type stuff I believe. So that's what I know in terms of stores, but in terms of playing, I don't know of anything going on in the city during that week. The club I started (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/csss/) is having an event on August 18th, but you'll be gone before then. I suppose people could always meet at Neutral Ground or wherever else sometime between the 8th and 11th casually.
