Well I'm mostly a newbie, having played some Axis & Allies as well as a few other Avalon Hill games back in high school. So now I'm looking to see what's out there. I'd like to browse an actual retail store location, I'm sure there has to be something, somewhere in NYC. Any thoughts on where to start? Thanks!

There's a forum for Northeast US that talks about some places. Also many post show up if you search for NYC:

There are others, certainly -- but, for me, there will always be a special "newbie thrill" about wandering through the Compleat Strategist for the first time.

The Compleat Strategist New York City Location
11 East 33rd Street (between Madison and Fifth Avenue)
New York, NY 10016

212-685-3880

Hours: Monday-Wednesday - 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Friday-Saturday - 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Thursday - 10:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sunday - Closed

Prices are about what you'd expect for a "boutique" shop in Manhattan, but the selection there is pretty nice -- as is the staff.

Enjoy!!

ahh yes, I totally forgot about the Complete Strategist! I actually used to walk past it all the time a few years ago but it was always closed when I got out of work. Thanks so much!

NYC is a lousy, lousy place to buy games. There are perhaps 2 stores worth visiting, and they charge at least MSRP, often more.

Complete Strategist has always been open Thursday evenings until 9PM.

Too bad there's no longer 3 Complete Strategist stores in Manhattan, darn.

Used to be one in Rock Center and another near Columbus Circle.

I was just there a few days ago for the first time. Picked up four games, one of which I didn't open and hope their exchange policy is ok.

Not exactly a place to go for good 'deals', but the selection is outstanding. The young sales person didn't know much about the games I was interested in, but the female casheir (owner perhaps?) thankfully did.

Oh, they were sold out on Puerto Rico and Arkham horror.
