Hi,

I going to be visiting Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton Alberta. What FLGS can/should I visit.

Thanks

Greg

Hi Greg:

Lethbridge doesn't have much. There's Games Galore at Park Place Mall, but that's just a converted Dufferin Games Room, if you're familiar with them. There's also Showcase Comics on 3rd Avenue, which has a few games.

Calgary has the Sentry Box (http://www.sentrybox.com/), which is huge and has a very impressive stock. That's one I wouldn't miss. Although I've never been there, I hear good things about Valley of the Mage (http://www.valleyofthemage.com/) in Okotoks, just south of Calgary.

In Edmonton, I think the best store is probably Mission Fun & Games (http://www.boardgames.ca/), which is in St. Albert.

Harold,

You from Lethbridge? You seem to know far too much of our little city to not be from here. If so, we should game sometime.

If you can make it to Calgary...you should try and make it to Sentrybox. It really is a big store with tonnes of boardgames, CCGs, minis, war games, etc.

Their prices range from bad to pretty good ($39.95 CDN for Blue Moon City, eg.) but it IS a very interesting store to go visit. I've heard rumours it is the largest of its kind in Canada.

As far as Lethbridge BGG'ers go, I only know of Eddie and myself. If Harold joins the club, that will be an increase of 50%!

If this keeps up, in 200 years, we can have our own con! (provided that we all live to be 200...)

The Sentrybox is a cool store, although fairly expensive, but I've never seen so many games in one place. They also have a floor devoted to wargames (which I know little about, but it looks cool) and lots of miniatures and things like that.

Mission Fun & Games also has lots of games and is probably worth a visit.

There is a small game store on the south side of Edmonton called Metropolis Toys. They have a limited number of games compared to the other stores on this list, but the guy who runs the place is super nice (and incidentally from Lethbridge where he moved the store from). He gave me a discount for buying loads of games and was great about ordering stuff for me. The address is 4039 - 106 St, which isn't far from Calgary Trail and Whitemud Crossing. I have no hesitation about recommending his shop, although it does lack the 'wow factor' of the shelves and shelves of games in the other stores.

Hey, why wait 200 years? We can have the world's smallest game con now. The great thing is that you're guaranteed to finish at least third in any tournament!

I haven't been there in ages. I went when we first moved to Lethbridge and was pretty disappointed. I've never been back. It might have improved; I don't know. Maybe one of the other two Lethbridge guys can help you out.

I'd second the overall opinion here that the Sentry Box is probably the one "must see" game store in the province, just because of its sheer size. I tend not to buy much there, because I find them a bit expensive, but I've been in few stores that are better to browse in. And far too often, browsing has led to an impulse purchase. Also, I remembered after I posted about Great White Toys, Comics, and Games in Southcentre Mall in Calgary. Not great pricing, OK selection, but it's right off Macleod Trail, so it's easy to find.

Also if you're looking for a game store in Fort McMurray there is Tactical Magic Games, http://www.canpages.ca/page/AB/fort-mcmurray/tactical-magic-...

I was amazed that a small city like this has such a high quality game store. Relatively new, but super nice and they have game tables to play on.

Not quite in the FLGS range but a guy trying to start one is here:

http://www.syndicategames.ca

Based out of red deer he has some good prices and offers free pick up in red deer, so a quick stop on highway 2 can get you a good deal.

Offhand, does anyone know if Mission fun and games aka boardgames.ca accepts online orders for pickup? Their shipping faq confused me and it didn't mention pick up specifically.

They absolutely do not. I've stopped using them because of this.
