Hello all,

Just for kicks, we are going to give away 14 copies of Hunting Party. In order to win, you have to solve a puzzle much like you used to find in magazines for Magic the Gathering.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/196

Except our puzzle will contain problems that you have to solve in Hunting Party. So, first thing you have to do is figure out how to play HP. Not too hard, since we have the rule book on our webpage.

Flash:
http://www.seaborngames.com/Flash/rulebook.html

HTML:
http://www.seaborngames.com/HTML/RuleBook/RuleBook.html

PDF:
http://www.seaborngames.com/bonus/RuleBook.pdf

In fact, you can also find every card in the game on our webpage. So, if you find you can't read the text in the puzzle image, simple click on over to our site and look up the card. There is also a 10 minute Audio/Video demo available on the site(requires Flash).

http://www.seaborngames.com/HTML/Demo.htm

The contest will begin on October 9th and run till October 22nd. Each day, there will be a new puzzle link added to this forum. Simply email my BGG account your answer. If you are correct, you will go into a random drawing for a free copy of Hunting Party.

I am providing an example puzzle so that we can get a handle on what we are looking for.

In a few days, I'll post the correct answer. I have no idea how hard this one will be to answer. Seems really easy to me...but who knows?

When I click 'Rules' I get rule clarifications. How can I find the rules of the game? (I'm using the html version).

Rules link:

http://seaborngames.com/Flash/rulebook/page_1.jpg

And then you have to keep replacing the 1 in the URL with other page numbers, up to 23.

(You guys should link to the actual rulebook from the main page)

That's a lot of work for game I MIGHT win.

It's easier to just buy a copy.

My bad, I added links to the header of this forum. There shouldn't be any reason to have to replace numbers in the URL.

Well then, I guess you won't be participating. Glad you felt the need to say so.

I remember Magic: the Puzzling fondly, and this seems like a great way to get people interested in Hunting Party. Maybe I'll even read the rules and give it a shot - even if only to beat Alexfrog.

Wait, are you:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Including the Monk's 2 shares? I don't believe you can, since you only get those for killing dark agents, not big bads

I did (access the rules via the links provided) - and would greatly prefer a PDF version I could download, printout, and read at my leisure without having to flip back/forth online.

Re: Hunting Party Give Away Contest
I don't actually know how to play Hunting Party, but it appears to me that you don't know how much gold everyone else has... in order to win the game you have to have more than them. Is the point of the puzzle to simply get as much gold as possible? Or is there supposed to be some way to ensure a win, no matter what (as was the case in many of the Magic puzzles)?

Your opponents have no money. I should have noted that in the puzzle. So if you end with any, you win.

I am puzzled how a thief with a paladin has no money

i found a way to win, but i don't see how you can get more gold than what you start with, unless i'm misunderstanding the rules. most things say you can't do them during a hunt, and since your turn is either hiring, buying or hunting, i'm taking that to mean that if you hunt during your turn you can't do any of those things, is that not correct? or maybe you didn't realize that the shadow is not a dark agent?

There is phase before and after your action(Hire, Hunt, or Shop) in which you can perform such actions.

23 Gold and 2 Silver is attainable. I will supply a viable answer to this example puzzle in a few days, unless someone posts it sooner.

ok, that makes things easier, actually the 'solution' i thought i had doesn't work because i misunderstood the defeating the shadow condition.

now i can only get 20 gold 2 silver.

k now i think i have a 22 gold 2 silver solution...

I looked around but couldn't find a list of all 12 skills the shadow could posses. I don't think I can solve the puzzle without knowing what all the skills are. But others seem to be able to solve it, so what am I missing?

Each game the Shadow will posses a different combination of 3 out of the 12 skills. This game he can be found in the Catacombs with Sorcery and defeated with Range.

The puzzle tells you which 3 are the ones needed (Catacombs, Sorcery, Range).

Youve 'figured out' that, already during this game.

As to character abilities involving treasure from dark agents: Yes, the shadow is not a dark agent, so you dont get the money from the monks shares for beating him.

But you can still get 23G 2S
