I was surprised, but not too surprised to see a more family-oriented game win. Splendor is a great little game.

The really crazy thing is seeing the top 3; it definitely shows we had a very diverse crowd voting this year!

Congrats to all the winners. I for one, like to see family oriented games doing so well. Good gateway/family games are what bring more people into this hobby!

Agree with all the winners except Game of the Year.

Wow I never would have thought Splendor. Perhaps its inoffensiveness brought with it mass appeal? I can't imagine anyone rating it their very favorite game of the year, but probably didn't get a lot of low ratings either.

Especially with BGG trending more thematic as of late I really suspected Dead of Winter to grab it.

I think a lot of the silent majority, low volume posters spoke on this. Splendor is a good game, I own it and love busting it out especially with "non-gamers", but I don't think in this fantastic year of releases that it was even close to the best game that came out.

Happy to see that Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition) got game of the year but sad to see that Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition) was only a runner up for game of the year.

Add me to the list of wondering how Splendor won. I own the game and find it moderately enjoyable, but I guess I still don't see why people rate it so high. I should mention that I don't mind easy access/ family games (Three Little Pigs is still one of my favorite games in the last few years) but Splendor has always seemed a little anti-climactic to me.

I guess the praise from Tabletop and The Dice Tower didn't hurt.

It wasn't my favorite game of the year, but out of the 20 regulars at my college game group, I'd guess eleven or twelve of them would say Splendor was their favorite new game from last year.

This feels like a Twilight Zone episode. I could imagine Splendor winning if you polled random people who happened to play some of these games, but not BGG users. Wow.

I think we need a new category for "heavy(er) strategy games". Where's Kanban and Panamax? Aquasphere, La Granja, and Orléans weren't available at retail in USA, so sadly they're getting lost in the shuffle when it comes to these awards.

I find my biggest complaint more diplomatically worded above.
