Greetings, Heroes.

In the previous preview I explained how terrain may benefit adjacent characters.

Now I would like to tell you about how it may hurt them.
First of all, let me remind you about the push effect from the base game.

Whether originating from expose markers or character abilities, the push effect caused a character to be moved out of the group, to a new distant group.

In the expansion, characters are instead pushed to an unoccupied terrain with the lowest number.

Unfortunately, the lowest numbered terrains, are more often than not, hazardous terrains.

When pushed to a terrain with a hazard icon, a negative and potentially painful effect occurs. In case of the campfire, the pushed character is dealt 1 damage.

So push is now an effect that may cause not only move, but also significant trauma.
Characters will find themselves tripping on stools, stuck in bear traps, falling into wells and stepping on rather furious and/or exploding animals. Push becomes a tactical tool, and both sides of the conflict may defend from it when standing near the anchor icon terrain (last preview).

This concentrates characters around terrain and increases the chance of enemies triggering the enemy action.

Old and new, more intelligent enemies, will likely position themselves in cover or in enemy action terrains.
If an enemy is activated near such terrain, the enemy first exploits the terrain effect to his advantage. In case of the campfire, the enemy sets himself on fire and runs towards the active hero, while shrieking. Because that is what any self respecting and disciplined enemy in Doomrock would do.

Every effect of terrain is presented on the large format terrain cards.
These are used both to draw terrain for battles and for reference during battles. They are two sided, with potentially different effects on each side of card/token.

This is it. Now you know all the extra rules for the expansion.
In the final product would like to bring you over 20 unique terrain tokens, with associated cards. In the next preview I will feature some of the already developed terrain markers and introduce a special piece of 'terrain' that is present in every battle. A new party member, so to speak.

Please let me know what you think about terrain so far.

Re: Assault in Doomroc - Doompocalypse. Preview - Terrain dangers.
Few words about release dates.

We hit bit of a delay with Kickstarter preparation.
It is now planned to launch at end of April, beginning of May.
And it is going to be Kickstarter, not Indiegogo!

Even though we are late with the crowdfunding, our primary goal is to deliver the game for Essen pickup and send it before the end of year.

On Kickstarter, you may expect
1. Doomrock second edition base game
2. Doompocalypse expansion
3. Bundles
4. second edition upgrade kit, which is currently a few cards and updated rulebook.

Loving all these new ideas.

Cannot wait for the new Kickstarter so I can actually get the game. And hopefully ...

larger adventure cards!

Please

(Or at least the option to upgrade to them if not a SG)

This is something I have been thinking about.
Difficult to achieve, unless the kickstarter is somehow a big success. Backup plan is to deliver them in a digital format, ready for print.

Re: Assault in Doomroc - Doompocalypse. Preview - Terrain dangers.
For the terrain, how many terrain features get spawned per encounter?

Also, you said that push now moves you to an unoccupied terrain, but what if there are no unoccupied terrain available, would it revert back to new empty group?

Looks good so far! Can hardly wait for the kickstarter to begin!

Also, will the box size for expansion be a large box like the original, or a small box?

I love this part of the description of the new environments.

So it sounds like for the current retail box owner, we can get an upgrade kit and the expansion. Sweet!

2 random major terrains, like the fireplace or table
1 random minor terrain, which I will cover later.

Other then that the animal companion of heroes (previewed later) and encounter specific terrain. Usually 1-2 small cover markers.

2 major terrains add a lot of flavor to the battles, but at the same time provide an array of effects that are easy to grasp.
The animal companion is present in every battle, so its effects are memorized early on.

Not adding weight and time to the battles was a major concern and the result satisfies me.

Yes, if no terrains are available, standard push to a new group would occur.

Smaller, like Race for the Galaxy
It is still going to be a major expansion though.
Around 150 cards planned, with ~20 terrain pieces.

Is there any consideration on using the expansion to enhance anything from the base game? For example, larger Area cards?

Re: Assault in Doomrock - Doompocalypse. Preview - Terrain dangers.
New terrain info and 2nd edition kit: Awesome!

Waiting longer: Not Awesome. Ever. ;-)

Couple of questions:

- So no new characters? Was hoping for a summoner-type. And a couple new traits wouldn't hurt either. :-)

- What do the card and check symbols at the top of the terrain cards mean?

- Have you considered any other formats for the reference info on the terrain? Just thinking that adding more cards to the many decks already present is not optimal. The terrain can be randomly chosen by picking the tokens themselves out of a cup, a la expose markers. How about a 3 panel stand up? Or...?

He mentioned there will be new characters way back. Doompocalypse will have a little bit of everything, heroes included.

I can't say anything else though, other than I saw them in action and [this part was removed to avoid designers rage].

I think I can safely answer these two questions:
chamr wrote:

Of course we will have new heroes! They were already shown here.
chamr wrote:

Most terrain cards have a number written below the cards icon, it will be used for choosing the minor terrain.

The "V" symbol shows the default side of the terrain, as you may have noticed, you flip the token (and the card as well) after someone falls into the fire (hazard). The other side is less... hostile

I love the sense of humor this game brings. It's so refreshing in a genre that generally either takes itself with dire solemnity or just goes over the top wacky. Doomrock lives in a very comfortable place in between. Mistfall looks pretty interesting mechanistically (like a mashup of Doomrock and Pathfinder), but it is hard to go back to those worn-out self-serious tropes.

Re: Assault in Doomrock - Doompocalypse. Preview - Terrain dangers.
Just as cool as the last preview. I was concerned that the new terrain twist would add significant time to battles, which are satisfying but long and intense. (When you survive) I'm glad you had this in mind.

The expansion sounds very exciting. LOTS of replayability with a few more components. If it's as elegantly designed as the base game, (seems like it!) I'm in.

Just for budgeting purposes, is there an estimate on how much the expansion will cost on Kickstarter?
