FINAL VOTING

Following the last few weeks of nominations, I am delighted to announce that the final polls are now open!

As the nominations were open for three weeks, I have decided to leave the various polls open for three weeks too. Therefore I have set each of them to close on 12th May.

Please vote for whichever games, variants or expansions you feel represent the best in each category. You can only vote for one entry in each category so choose wisely.

When the polls have closed the entry with the most votes in each category will be declared the winner of that category.

The Hall of Fame

Again, just one vote per category. However, there will be two games, two game designers and two BGG users that will be entered into the Hall of Fame this year.

IMPORTANT: As this has been mentioned more than once, please note that the Lord of the Rings game you are voting for is the game by Reiner Knizia released in 2000. It is NOT the LCG.

Despite having an interest in solo gaming, I feel entirely unqualified to vote on last years' crop. I don't want to skew the poll by just choosing something I'm most interested in trying.

But I wanted to post my thanks for running it, as the results will no doubt help me in the future.

Interesting on the hall of fame game. I voted for Lord of the Rings because I thought it was referring to the LCG, and then upon noting the error, I changed my vote. Not sure if anyone else was confused (or it's probably just me )

I just noticed the same thing and changed my vote as well. Not that the Lord of the Rings game is bad but I dont really think it deserves any Hall of Fame either.

LoTR LCG is another story.

I have added a note before the poll to clarify this.

If anyone needs to change their vote for this category then feel free to do so between now and the closing date.

Yeah it is another story, but the opposite of yours

LCG does NOT deserve HoF, especially not as a solo game.
LOTR by Knizia is an awesome co-op game that is well deserving of the honor.

+1. Concur with Kevin. Lord of the Rings is deserving of the honor. The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a great game and fun to play but it doesn't evoke "Hall of Fame" to me. Not yet anyway.

Unfortunately a lot of newer users to BGG will not be aware of how much impact some of the listed games had on the gaming community.
I can fully understand their reasoning that the LCG is better than the Knizia offering.
But I wonder whether we would have Pandemic, Robinson Crusoe, Dead of Winter and other great co-ops ... or even the LotR:LCG if Knizia's LotR hadn't made the whole co-op genre popular?

Youre right, I wasnt really thinking about it in that context and its place in the evolution of gaming but rather my enjoyment of the game.

Totally agree. Lord of the Rings was why I got into board gaming. I much prefer the LCG for my middle earth adventures now, but this was the grandaddy of coops.

Interesting to see these results (so far).

I'm so happy to see Thunder Alley doing so well! My guess is that most of the Star Realms votes (here and for nomination) are misplaced, which (at the time of this posting) would TA in the lead! Really great to see a racing game, and stock cars at that, up at the top.

I'm with Kevin/Ryan on the LotR thing. I actually think that co-op is better than 99% of the co-ops that have come out since. Including the LCG by a long shot. And I like the LCG.

Pictures by the game would probably be a good idea. A post-awards discussion thread might be a good thing, we can talk about things like that. And Star Realms.

I am no fan of NASCAR or racing at all.

I love Thunder Alley. It's amazingly good for hand and team management.

I love Star Realms too, but IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE!!!

Magic Realm is doing a lot better than I would have thought, seeing as how it has a reputation for unplayability and the solo variant seems to have a somewhat mixed rep.

One of these days that rulebook(s) will start making sense.

EDIT: Also, surprised to see Vlaada leading the HOF nominations on (I assume) the strength of Mage Knight alone for solo play. It's a brilliant game and design, no doubt, but are there other solo-play games in his ludography that stand out as well? Legitimately curious if there's something I've been missing out on.

For multiplayer, if those voting for the 5th or 6th place entries would throw their support to the #2 game (as of now) the true #1 could prevail and a gross injustice could be prevented.
