I have a friend who would like to pick up a copy of Settlers and he lives in Charleston, SC. Would some be willing to let me know a good game store he can visit to pick it up. He is not a boardgamer yet but her no one is perfect :-)

The Green Dragon on Northwoods Blvd is the best bet. They are good people there that support the local gaming community.

The Green Dragon?! Wow, is that place still there?! I remember wasting away some of the most valuable years of my youth in that place. Good to know that the tradition continues!

I like the Green Dragon as well but if he doesn't find it there you have couple of other alternatives. Hobby Town is across the Ashely and not to far from Citadel mall has a fair amount of games. Northwoods mall has a seasonal calender store that sells boardgames and I have seen settlers in there. Also Barnes and Nobles has games during the holiday season, I was at the one across the Ashley and they had a big table in the back. I haven't been to the store by Northwoods but I imagine they have the same.

Good place to get Euro-style games . . . and there's a most interesting Vietnamese retsuarant next door, and two Thai places withon 30 seconds. If that helps.

I have also bought bought a game from Hobbytown USA in West Ashley because I couldn't find anywhere else. Be careful though, I have seen games there at above retail price and the people that I have talked to there know little or nothing about games.

You could check out our store:

Here Be Books & Games
810 Travelers Blvd
Summerville, SC 29485
(843) 695-1498

We carry over 800 game titles, from casual to gamer games, including Euros. You can see what we've currently got in stock at our web site's online store (herebebooksandgames.com).

Try before you buy utilizing our extensive and current Demo Game Library. You can view our collection right here (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/herebebooks). We'll even teach you how to play. We're happy to special order anything we don't have in stock.

We recently moved and now have 3 game rooms so we can provide in-store gaming whenever we're open. Game Night, going since 2007 is the 1st Saturday of every month - now starting at 2pm - running until after midnight. 35 to 45 people usually attend.

Here's a list of games we've played in the store since March 2009: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/plays/bymonth/user/herebebooks. (It could be more accurate: I sometimes forget to post our plays.)

This doesn't seem to be functioning anymore. I've tried to add our store to the database several times, but just get error messages. The discussion area is also dead.

Here Be Books & Games
4650 Ladson Road, Suite I
Summerville, SC 29485-8535

We're located at the corner of Ladson and Dorchester Roads, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Charleston.

We carry about 300 titles, more Euro-style than anything else. You can get a good idea of what we've currently got in stock at our web site's online store (www.herebebooks.com) though it doesn't list everything in the brick and mortar store. We also stock over 40,000 books, including a good sci fi/fantasy section (the best in the area) and collectible roleplaying games.

I've invested a lot of time and money into procuring demo games so you can try before you buy. You can view our collection right here (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/herebebooks). We'll even teach you how to play. We're happy to special order anything we don't have in stock.

We've been hosting monthly game nights for over 2 years: 1st Saturday of every month at 6pm. Turn out varies: usually between 15 and 20 people. One month we had over 30! That's a lot in our small space. We often take a break around 4pm to play games. We're usually willing to play anytime customer traffic allows. Here's a list of games we've played in the store since March 2009: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/plays/bymonth/user/herebebooks. (It could be more accurate: I sometimes forget to post our plays.)

I have been buying games at Here be Books for quite some time and the customer service is top notch! I think the ability to try games before you buy says something about thier customer service and thier dedication to the local board gaming community. The selection of games is great and if they don't have it, they will order it for you. How does it get any better than that? Well, they hold thier monthly game night that draws quite a crowd.

All-in-all, Here Be Books & Games is a great asset to the Charleston Area.

In the Charleston area you have three options for game shopping and gaming.

1. Hobbytown USA in West Ashley
2. Green Dragon in North Charleston
3. Here Be Books & Games in Summerville

Here be Books & Games is by far the best in my opinion. They offer the largest selection. they also offer some, not many, used games and RPG books as well.

Thanks. Checked out Here Be Books and Green Dragon. Thought GD was by far the more interesting store, simply due to the other merchandise they carried. And the selection was decent at both places, but neither had what I was looking for.

I'd love to do some gaming while I'm there, just not sure when I'll be available. (family vacation with the inlaws)

I know I'm driving so I can bring any of the games I have (and probably will have a decent amount on me anyways)

Quite an old thread. Is someone still watching this?
I‘ll be in Charleston in Nov 2018 and would like to do a
bit of game shopping, maybe even play a game or two.

Any suggestions?

I recommend either Here Be Books and Games, which happens to right around the corner from my house, or The Green Dragon. Both have a large selection of boardgames. The Green Dragon carries RPG as well.

Here Be Books & Games has an excellent selection of board games of all types and a large demo game library. There are three game rooms with tables set up for play anytime. The owners will even teach you how to play.
