Nexus Ops Variant

These Faction-specific technologies may be Researched at the 6th step within the player's Turn. Only one technology may be Researched in a Turn. The Rubium Cost of the Research is noted in brackets, next to the name of the technology.

Games last longer in this variant, with the first Faction to reach 18 Victory Points being the winner of the game.

Black Helix Enterprise (BH) - specializes in human cloning technology.

BH1 (3) - DNA Labs: For each Human in your HQ spaces, you may recruit 1 Human at a cost of 1 Rubium instead of 2.

BH2 (3) - DNA Extractor: For each enemy Human defeated in battle, you gain 1 Rubium.

BH3 (3) - DNA Recycler: At the end of each Turn, place 1 Human in your HQ space for every 2 of your Humans killed on that turn, rounded up.

BH4 (4) - DNA Splitter: For each Human that you have in a non-HQ controlled space, you may deploy 1 newly recruited (cloned) Human in the same space.

Zyborg Technologies (ZT) - specialises in cyborg technologies that artifically enhance humans.

ZT1 (3) - Battle-borg: During battle, your Humans hit on a roll of 5+.

ZT2 (4) - Miner-borg: At the start of your Turn, gain 1 extra Rubium for each non-HQ controlled space with a Mine and at least 1 of your Humans.

ZT3 (2) - Terra-borg: Your Humans may enter Magma Pool spaces and the Monolith.

ZT4 (3) - Repair-borg: Your Humans may instead of rolling to hit, roll successfully as usual with its fighting value to negate the loss of one of your units in the battle.

Galactic Syndicate (GS) - specialises in criminal endeavours.

GS1 (3) - Counterfeiters: For every 2 Rubium (rounded down) that remains unspent after you purchase units on your turn, immediately gain 1 Rubium.

GS2 (3) - Poachers: After recruiting units, you may deploy 1 Fungoid in a Liquifungus Forest or 1 Crystalline in a Crystal Spires space that you control.

GS3 (3) - Slavers: After winning a battle in a contested space, you may place 1 Human in that space for each enemy Human defeated in that battle.

GS4 (4) - Smugglers: Your Mining units are able to Mine in an adjacent space where your enemy has Mining units, and in doing so remove the ability for the enemy to gain Rubium from this Mine in the process, until your next Turn.

Ares Inc. (AI) - specialises in military-purposed technology.

AI1 (3) - Plasma Weapons: When making an attack, Humans in adjacent uncontested spaces may fire as if they are in the battle, but only if they have not fired this Turn. Humans firing from adjacent hexes may not be removed as casualties in that battle.

AI2 (4) - Shock Troopers: Your Humans attack first in any battle that you initiated.

AI3 (4) - War Beasts: For each Human involved in a battle, you may re-roll 1 set of attack dice for another of your units in the following order of choice - Rock Strider, Lava Leaper, Rubium Dragon. You must take the 2nd result.

AI4 (3) - War Mounts: Your Rock Striders, Lava Leapers and Rubium Dragons may carry along one of your Humans each on the same space when they move. Any Human unit may not benefit twice from this ability in a single turn.

that looks pretty good.

I'm not sure I understand how War Beasts is supposed to work though...

Basically it is an improvement of the original rule, with accumulative effects that stack with more than one Human in the battle. Well, I have two things to share with you guys. First, I want these Faction-specific traits to be as thematic and ideally fitting. Towards that end, certain unwieldy rules that lack theme and are not streamlined enough have to be tweaked and refined.

Second, the core mechanics of this game has inspired me to create four Factions that are asymmetrical and utterly different, this premise being what I see as the lacking element for the game. The four Factions work very differently, and this game as I am working on so far is called "Chaos Stone". If you seek any details concerning the game, please do ask, and I will share what I can.

Well, asymmetry was the entire point behind factions. this definitely fits the theme nicely.

Nice rules!! Good job.

I just have two doubts.

1. Could you make an example of ares 3rd power? I do not understand it clearly.

2. The fourth ares power allows to carry a human into lava pools and monolith? I guess that no, but just wondering

I don't get the "order of choice" thing either. My best guess is that it means you have to choose which type of unit before actually rolling dice.

The fourth one... yeah I think the point of this power is to let humans move farther and faster, not to let them enter otherwise inaccessible areas.

BH4 (7) – DNA Combiner: At the Deployment Step, upon rolling a D6, depending on the result of the roll, all your Humans gain the attributes of one of the 6 types of units, determined by the number of the roll, which is in accordance with the fighting order of the 6 units.

DNA Combiner might be too powerful.

Galactic Syndicate (GS) - specialises in criminal endeavours.

GS1 (4) - Poachers: For every Fungoid destroyed in a Liquifungus Forest or Crystalline destroyed in a Crystal Spires, you gain that unit in the space.

GS2 (2) - Slavers: After winning a battle in a contested space, you may place 1 Human in that space for each enemy Human defeated in that battle.

GS3 (5) - Counterfeiters: For every Poached or Enslaved unit, gain its amount of Chaos Stones.

GS4 (5) - Smugglers: Your Mining units are able to Mine in an adjacent space where your enemy has Mining units, and in doing so remove the ability for the enemy to gain Rubium from this Mine in the process, until your next Turn.

I am not too sure about Counterfeiters.
