With Games Workshop’s newly revived Specialist Games division confirmations are pointing to a second wave release of Space Hulk- both the base game and some new (and old) expansions.

Expect army creation rules, and new models, plus missions to already build on the dynamics and fantastic components of the game.

Early to mid 2016 release date.

Link.

Right when I thought I was done painting these minis...

If somehow this isn't compatible with my 2014 edition, I'm going to be quite upset.

Edit: They have probably finally observed the raging success mini driven games have had at selling expansion after expansion after expansion, and are looking to follow more closely to FFG's business model.

I'm looking at you Imperial Assault, Descent, Shadows of Brimstone, Zombicide, etc.

Separate expansions with new tiles and missions would be awesome. And if the new version of the base game has different missions than the sixteen in the 4th edition, then I hope that they are available digitally so I'm not forced to either re-buy the base game or pirate them from another source. I am more than happy to pay GW for the missions if they will make them available to me. Also, I wish White Dwarf had more Space Hulk featured articles and missions.

Ha! It only took me 4 years to finish painting all the doodads on the terminators (got'em done right before the 2014 version came out). I bet if I looked hard right now, I could still find an unfinished Purity Seal. Oddly, I painted both my sets of genestealers, each in mere days. And, they look better than the termies, thanks to the miracle that is "dipping".

I don't see how an expansion would not be compatible with 2011/2014 versions, and a new version. I would be amazed and confused it ain't. I can see how a new version would have new stuff, even if it is substantially the same game. And, if it ain't, I'll buy it anyway.cry

And, I don't give a damn about you "collectors." New stuff is not an assault on your imaginary investments. New stuff is good! I DO NOT fault GW for selling me stuff I WANT. This is America, Dammit! I have a Constitutional Right to go broke buying crap I don't need!

I'd rebuy it if the minis are updated to well balanced ones that don't keep tipping over.

I immediately thought that this would be more of a packaged version of something like this that includes the mini's in the "We think you'd like" section.

If it's actually more content, like a lot more, like an expansion, I'll buy it. But after happily buying 3rd Ed, and getting suckered into buying the pathetic 4th Ed, if 5th Ed is just 4th Ed with 2 more missions, I'll pass.

Bell of Lost Souls, for the past few months, have been reporting that GW's next minor army for 40K, will be the Genestealer Cult. IF this reprint occurs, then it looks like a good time as any for them to release an expansion that re-introduces the cult back into 40K...Genestealer Hybrids...

The PC game Space Hulk Ascension already introduced genestealer biomorphs like the Fleshhook, Feeder Tendril and Acid Maw genestealers. Perhaps we'll see those make a jump to the boardgame.

Seeing as I'm a 1st ed owner, not interested in the new look and minis. Expansions would make me buy the newer edition. The expansion tiles won't look right with my old ones.

No, your wallet is not safe!

But, think of the possibilities...Those BIG corridor and special tiles from past expansions and WD articles, remade in the new, thicker, glossy style. Genestealer Hybrids! Supermodels and private islands. Gamers lined up for days around GW stores in anticipation of the release date. Collectors juming out of high rise windows. Riots in the streets when they run out. Back ally deals between shady distributors and desperate gamers. Roving bands of marauders plundering expansion bits across a barren post-Apocalyptic wasteland.

You know, stuff like that.

All the best stuff is aleady in the new editions so I hope any expansions find some way of making this material worthwhile. Hybrids were a waste of plastic. I'd probably be into the return of the big rooms though, although they were best avoided by canny 'stealer players

Wait! What? Why, I aughta...

Maybe Hybrids weren't the best thought out addition to Space Hulk. Maybe the plastic Hybrids looked like an aspiring sculptor's bad, early, acid-influenced dabblings. Maybe my plastic and metal Hybrids were the core of my first 40K army, a quarter-century ago. My storied Genestealer Cult that won almost half of every one of the games I played against Newbs and kids. New Hybrids could easily be the most exciting thing since Nearly Painless Catheters!

I really liked the idea of them, the whole back story, but just couldn't get them to work in gameplay terms. I think (from memory) the only one that ever seemed to do anything was the conversion beamer. Whenever anything else came up as a blip it would just be ...ugh.

Conversion Beamers were my 40K GSC army's go-to "point and click" weapon.

Oh, definitely. If Games Workshop created an expansion every month, I'd lap them up. But knowing GW, what they're probably going to do is create "Space Hulk 5th Edition" and that will just be a reprint of 4th Ed with one extra tile sheet and 2 new missions, and sell it for $150.

I loved hybrids, and I even liked the psyker powers. I thought using the cardboard cards was a clever way of making a complex system quick and playable (and random). Most "power" systems like that, especially back in the 80s, would have been highly complex. The tile drawing and rotating power was pretty easy to understand and play with. Never could figure out why it got such a bad rap among gamers...

I kinda hope this is exactly what they do. If it is, I get to save the money I would spend on expansions...

What? You want a product that is 95% the same as the previous 2 products? Why? Especially since 4th Ed is still on many, many shelves...

I'd be thrilled with new board pieces, minis, and optional expansion rules. Just have to wait and see if what we actually get will be worth buying.
