I will be visiting North Carolina next week and wanted to see if there are "must see" game shops in the Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham area? Thanks!

I've only ever frequented Cape Fear Games in Wilmington, which is a great shop.

If you're in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham) area, go to Atomic Empire. It's not must-see, but it's a solid shop with a nice selection of board-games. They have lots of space to play, and even several beer taps if you're into that.

Two other Raleigh area stores: Game Theory (Raleigh) and Gamer's Armory (Cary). I don't know that I would say either are "Must see" but you might be able to get some gaming in on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, respectively.

Atomic Empire is pretty cool if only for its sheer size. I don't think I've ever seen a game store as large. The selection of games is definitely nothing to shake a stick at either ... pretty great all around store.

Gamers Armory, PKW, Game Theory, etc. are all pretty average game stores and unless you're a local there's not much more than if you can swing by on a game night and enjoy some great open gaming at any of them.

All the owners are very nice folks who are doing this for the love of their local gamer community which is great.

My two cents...If you're looking for discounted games (around Raleigh/Durham), Atomic Empire is the best choice as their discount is most competitive (25ish). Gamer's Armory is decent (15-20 if memory serves me right). Everyone else in the area are typically MSRP. Also Atomic Empire has very good prices on Magic if that's an interest.

Can confirm: Atomic Empire is awesome! We go every time we're in that area.

Thanks for this thread - I might be in Raleigh next week myself.

To the OP - did you end up making it out to any and did any live up to your expectations?

Traveling from Charlotte to the Outer Banks next week and would like to check out any good stores that are easily along the route. Suggestions? I've noted a few in the Raleigh/Durham area and curious how far off the route they may be?

Gamers Armory?
Game Theory?
Event Horizon?
Atomic Empire?

Carolina TableTop Games has just opened in Pineville, and will have beer on tap within a week or two. Check it out!
