Hey all,

I'll be in the UK next week and I'll have a day to run around London.

What's the best gaming store in the city? I'm looking for board games, preferable with European imports available.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to take a look at the Orc's Nest store - mainly miniatures stocked but an interesting if small collection of boardgames upstairs.

It's just 5-10 minutes up the road from Charing Cross/Trafalgar Square:

Check the website for an idea of what games they might have and for location info!

Enjoy your trip!!

Chris.

'Playingames' in Museum Street just opposite the British Museum and within walking distance of 'Orc's Nest' above. As you walk from one to the other you will pass 'Forbidden Planet' one of the largest comic stores around.

don't forget to try some of our warm beer - it's really rather good.

Depending on where in London, there's also Leisure Games, in Finchley. If you're in the middle of London, it's a relatively long way to the north. You'd have to make it a special trip, 'cos I don't think there's anything touristy there.

I'd second this option if you're looking for games rather than minis. The games you're looking for are downstairs.

If you're into traditional games and abstracts as well as designer games then Playin' games is the place for you.
If it's purely designer then Leisure games is best by far. They get in many of the more obscure titles that they order from small companies and designers direct across Europe. Well worth the trip out to Finchley.
If it's minis and RPGs then Orcs Nest beats them both. (I know you didn't want RPGs but they're all such great shops that I thought it unfair to leave one out ).

Don't forget the price difference between the US and here though - typically UK shop prices are about double that of US sites like Thoughthammer - there is an almost direct dollar to pound correlation so a game that would cost $30 will cost £30 over here (almost double).

Of course you might be after something specific and Playing Games does have a nice stock of games but don't expect too many bargains in 'rip off Britain!'
