Felix played the Buka for the first time, because, well, he'd never tried the Buka. Mark took the Terrah, because, well, he always starts with the Terrah against an unknown quantity.

Felix started out in a big, big way. He played the 3 capacity ship that allows itself to be instantly loaded. Felix loaded three of the Buka's heave hitters--the 4 and 5 power characters. Mark had started the fight in earth, and tried to force Felix burn through useful cards. Felix had played the 4/4 retrieve Buka character, so Mark replied with the support that causes icons to be ignored in conjunction with a 6 earth character. Felix landed his ship, getting to 12 (!) earth. Mark gladly retreated, even though it cost him two dragons--Felix had played his four strongest value characters, two of his fire bluffs, and two of his earth bluffs.

The rest of the game, Felix played very well, but simply didn't have much left in his arsenal. He kept the fights in fire, but that was when Mark drew his two 4 fire characters and the Vulca guest--so he was more ready, at that stage, to fight in fire than in earth (hey, it happens with the Terrah). Because Mark drew well, Felix was forced to bluff twice in fire--since Mark knew the odds of his having the lone remaining fire bluff were slight, Mark called the bluff both times. 4 dragons for the Terrah. The remaining two dragons were won by the Terrah simply having more firepower left--giving them an outfight victory before another Buka landing could take place.

Felix was intrigued by the possibilities offered by Buka ships, but felt hemmed in by the fact that between booster/support cards, bluffs, and loading a ship, he can normally do one a turn (without help from various Buka power texts).

Nice game. Glad to see all these session reports cropping up lately.

I don't think I'd load all my power hitters on the ships because you might overwhelm someone with massive power and win a fight, but it strips you down for the endgame - exactly like it seemed to this game.
