I live in LA, but will be moving to SD within the year once I graduate. I'm looking to find a good gaming store with the following criteria:

1) very friendly
2) good selection of all types of games including miniature gaming
3) big enough for a table or more for open playing
3) is there to stay (at least as far as we can tell!)

I'd recommend Game Empire. They have open miniature gaming (many tables) as well as other types of gaming. They recently opened a branch in Pasadena, so you might want to check that out for now.

The best one I know of in SD is right in Old Town on a street corner. Can't remember the name but they were very friendly and had a great selection of everything.

It's called Game Towne, and they've been there for as long as I can remember.

I was just in Game Empire for the first time today - that place is HUGE! It looked like about half of the floor space was for active gaming.

You really can't go wrong with either Game Empire or Game Towne. They're both Friendly, have good selections, and are well-maintained. Game Towne has the advantage on war games, while Game Empire has a huge open gaming area.

I haven't been to Pair-A-Dice, but I've heard good things.

Chris

Hmmm...Game Empire seems to have a pretty large selection of war games (they carry almost every Flames of war figure for example and their board game section is great as well.) While I agree that Game Towne has a good selection of war games, Game Towne seems to have as many...or more.

I like game towne, its okay. No gaming space and you're usually the only one in the store. Also Old town is a PITA to get to/park in.

Game Empire is more of a gamer's store. Huge play area, always a bunch of people to play SOMETHING with, wide selection, and pretty enthusiastic and cool staff.
