Hi all

After 2 years of inactivity I started to play more games in the last time.
Additionally I've changed my gaming group. Preferences are different then before and we prefer lighter games as earlier.

Therefore I'm looking for board game recommendations:
- Short playing time (30-60 min)
- Low waiting time between own turns
- Publication between 2014-now
- High replaying value
- Playable 2-4 (5 is nice but not must)
- No auction mechanic

We play at the moment very often 7Wonders as well as Splendor, which are fulfilling for us above criteria.

I know many games before 2014 and we still play classics / longer / more complex games as Puerto Rico, Caylus etc, but not as often as before.

Thanks for your support,
Yantur

Sheriff of Nottingham
Splendor
Linko!
Diamonds
Elysium (once learned, it can be played in around an hour or so)
Sushi Go! (since you like 7W, you might try this short card drafting game)
Cartagena (older game, but a new edition was released last year and it might fit the bill)

Maybe Lanterns: The Harvest Festival? Only plays up to 4 though. For this game, even if it's not your turn you still will be getting a tile.

I've made an advanced search based of 2-4 players, published 2014+ and playing time of 30-60 min. and did find these games:
https://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeksearch.php?action=search&a...

You find the Adv. Search at the right top of the page. There you also can filter on mechanic and category. Here is a link: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/advsearch/boardgame

Came to recommend 7 Wonders, saw it is already in your list.

+ to Sheriff of Nottingham.

If you don't mind less complex games, two very popular and fulfilling ones are Hanabi (although it is apparently way older thank thought it was, but still readily available), and Codenames. Codenames looks like a party game (and can be) but it's very deep.

I love Codenames. I actually don't much care for Hanabi but feel like it would satisfy your requirements.

Hi Hanne - Thanks for the tip, a good starting point for my research.

Suggestions of other players are helpful as well - it helps to get to a shortlist.

To all other: Sheriff of Nottingham sounds interesting, I like the role play aspect of the game. Will try it out - in the end the group dynamic will decide if it is a success.

Hanabi and The Game (other short game) I know already. I'm not so fancy on Hanabi, but it's ok.

On my try list I'll add:
- Sheriff of Nottingham
- Sushi go
- Port royal
- Codenames

Because we will meet regularly, I'm thinking as well about Pandemic legacy. What is your experience regarding play time of one game?
As well Istanbul and Mysterium could be an option. What is the replay value there in your oppinion?

Thanks so far - additional suggestions are still welcome!

Shortest 2-5 player game that has no down time I can think of is Escape: The Curse of the Temple... but that is technically 2012 and thus before your time.

Recently released is Doctor Panic, which is also in the same vein (12 minutes, timed with an android app, simultaneous completion of 8 dexterity challenges rather than simultaneous dice rolling... both are fully cooperative).

Android: Mainframe has all that you are looking for. It offers quite a different feel at different player counts as well.

Port Royal is really good, especially if you thought the turns in Splendor had a little bit too much downtime. The expansion adds a little more strategy too.

I like Colt Express, 2-6 players (came out 2014, so you may or may not be familiar with it), downtime isn't too bad in my experience. FUSE is a 10 minute co-op and is a lot of fun if you like chucking dice, 2-5 players. Sushi Go, mentioned by others, is quite fun but really light- a good filler, very little/no downtime, but I do tire of it after lots of repeat plays.

Also:

Escape: The Curse of the Temple (cooperative; dice-rolling; real-time action)

Empire Engine (2013, but still available; simultaneous action selection with a rondel-like mechanic)

Flip City (deck-building)

Parade (2007, but recently re-released; set collection)

In my experience, a game session of Pandemic Legacy takes longer than the typical playtime of Pandemic. In part, this is due to setup as you progress in the game (opening windows in the dossier, mission briefing, role selection, etc.) and also because the decisions often feel so critical with their permanence that there's more discussion. The box says 60 min., but we average more like 90 min. in a session. I think it's an amazing experience, but it might run longer than your desired time.

Knizia has a bunch of incredibly eloquent, short, easy-playing games that get ignored - maybe because people get obsessed with his harder stuff, and underrate his chiller stuff.

Great recent non-auction ones include:
Indigo (tile-laying connection stuff, like Tsuro, but with a clever shifting alliance thing)
Callisto (attack Tetris. Like Blokus but meaner)

Slightly older, but Samarkand: Routes to Riches packs a lot of neatness into a simple a clean and fast package.

Hi all

A thousand thanks for all the nice suggestions and replies to my questions!

Hard to give you a reason why I ignored some of the suggestions, but it was due a combination of the following small individual reasons:
- Looks similar to other games we play, can't see the uniqueness
- Graphics / design not our taste
- Wrong topic (SF, Western)
- too abstract
- no German version available (depending on material e.g. card texts more problematic for some in our group - rules some terms on playing materials not a problem)
...

I ordered already because rules and content looked as they would fit to our group:
- Sheriff of Nottingham
- Sushi Go!
- Port Royal

I enhanced my wish list to check rules and some additional reviews:
- Codenames
- Android: Mainframe (have to check SF topic, but design is still on ok side)
- The Grizzled
- Doctor Panic (like the topic)
- Archeology: New Expedition
- Deus (probably on the longer side as Pandemic)
- Lanterns: The Harvest Festival
- Between Two Cities (still available for a reasonable price?)
- Eight-minute-empire
- New York 1901

I played Colt Express for the first time at my local game store's game night last week. I didn't expect to like it because of the them and because it seemed a little "kiddie", but man it was fun and really fast. Definitely second your recommendation.
