Hello everyone,

Next week I'm going on a holiday to Japan. I can speak the language (It's been a while and I'm outta practice). I'd to buy the Tekelili card game... Are there any board game shops in Tokyo (in the Shibuya, Harajuku,... district)?

Good listing and map here:

http://www.tgiw.info/etc/link-t.html (Japanese)

I'd recommend the Yellow Submarine Akihabara RPG Shop. It's the red building on the top to the right of the building labeled SEGA on the map below (the station is JR Akihabara on the Yamanote Line. Hours are weekdays 12-9 and weekends/holidays 11-8).

Also, I just checked the online inventory at Möbius Games. As of the last update (yesterday) Tekeli-li is out of stock. There still might be a copy at one of the other stores in the area though.

It does, however, appear to be in stock at Sugorokuya by JR Kouenji station (last update was tomorrow)*. The price is 1890 yen.

Hello. I will be in Tokyo from 26th May to 31st May. I have never been in Tokyo before, so I don't know how to find my way around the city.

I will be there for an event which won't leave me much time to walk around.

So, what I would like to know is which game shop is nearest to the place I will be in.

The tournament will be in:
Nihon Kiin
7-2 Goban-cho
Chiyoda-ku
Tokyo

And the hotel I will be staying at will be:
Grand Arc Hanzomon
1-1 Hayabusa-cho
Chiyoda-ku
Tokyo

As I said before, I really don't know the city, so I just copied the information I have. But, given that in my country it is nearly impossible to find good board games (Risk clones is the best you can get), I want to use this chance if possible.

Also, I don't speak Japanese. Is it possible to get games printed in English?

Thanks in advance for any response.

sounds like you are going to the world amateur go championships, but it seems you will be staying in tokyo itself, while I've been told I'll be staying in Narita - close to the airport, almost 2 hours away from Tokyo. Anyway, I'll be on a lookout for someone from Uruguay, we might go boardgamehunting together :-)

Just a follow up from that. I found the RPG SHOP today (after lots of looking) but it's not actually right next to the SEGA building. There's a small street between the two. The RPG shop is on the corner of the next intersection (on the busy street) and it's on the 7th floor.

Also if you go straight up (towards the top of the map) from the RPG shop, and go to the next set of lights, on that corner on the 6th floor is a games shop called Roll and Roll (or something like that). It had a really good selection of board games (both Battlelore and Memoir 44 which i couldn't find anywhere else.

Hopefully this helps anybody who is looking for games in Akihabara.

As a long time resident of Tokyo, I would have to say that the best place to buy English board games at is Shosen Book Mart in Jinbouchou.
Go to this site: http://www.tgiw.info/etc/link-t.html
and click on the Shosen link to send you to the map. Shosen Book Mart is the lower of the two buildings on the map, the red block. The blue block is Shosen Grande, another book store. From Ochanomizu station, on the Chuo line, walk south (I'll say what landmarks you can find on the way, which are noted on the map) There is a Mizuho bank on the corner (a white square on the map). Keep going for about 5 minutes and you will see the shop as in the piture. Boardgames are on the second floor, just go through the porn.
They have a really impressive collection of boardgames and RPG games (they even had Burning Wheel there at one point!). CCGs aren't as cheap there, but still available.
Prices aren't bad, but not cheap by any means. Look at paying double what the American online price would be.

Just got back from Japan and thought I'd chime in and second Ryan's comment that Shosen Book Mart is probably the best board game shopping location in Tokyo. I was pretty much floored by their selection!

I realize I'm bumping an ancient post, but this is the top result for "board games tokyo" on google.

For people finding this post, note that Shosen Book Mart is now permanently closed.

There are places you can play in Shibuya, like cafes but haven't really heard of any shops where you can buy the games.

One of my favourites in Tokyo to buy games is Surugaya. They are in Akihabara.
They have a very nice mix of English and Japanese version of games.

Just so no one wanders around as much as I did...there are five locations for Surugaya, each one of them seeming to specialize in a different form of gaming. Unfortunately Google doesn't seem to even know about the board game one.

The closest of their stores is at: https://goo.gl/maps/6newjRzKLeP2 (this is the retro video gaming location). If you walk out of that store, turn left, and look on the right side of the road on the second floor, you will see the board game shop (approximately here: https://goo.gl/maps/cLuWwSPWPTU2). There is a staircase up to it on the outside of the building.

I did end up buying a game there, though most of the prices were pretty high. There were some out-of-print games in the US that they had for some of those exorbitant prices, though.

(Also, PSA, while you're in the area, go to Pablo's cheese mini-tart...they are awesome!)
