New article:

Designing for Art Requirements

Somewhat uncomfortably categorised under "components" Wasn't quite sure where else it belonged.

New Article:

Third order balancing in Genesis

Genesis - anyone been reading long enough to remember that?
I've actually done quite a lot more work on it than all two of the articles on the blog would suggest. Possibly it deserves more of a write up sometime

New article Resource Asymmetry

Thanks for the feedback last week, still having problems with images so I tried the titles thing this week to see how that feels.

New article: History of Games

Warning: I am not a historian and some of my "research" boiled down to "Check wikipedia then find 3 or so people who might know and ask them"

This is one of those articles I've written because I expect people to tell me I'm wrong or point out important things I've missed - but that's ok because I could use a little more knowledge about the subject

New Article: Social Deduction for Introverts

Kinda shoehorned into mechanics discussion but possibly belongs in miscellaneous?

Honestly the index is kinda overloaded by now, I might need to split things into more categories to make it managable but that's such an effort

New Article: An Intentionally Unfair Game

Placed with a certain sense of irony under "balancing".
It's more unbalancing but who's counting?

Space Food Truck (Learning from a deckbuilding computer game)

The title of the link in the index is way more informative than the article title!

Actually wrote this a few days ago but BGG was playing silly buggers so I couldn't post the link(s) until just now.

Dollar Auctions

This one is about an economics thought experiment and whether it'd make a good basis for a game or not.

Wow, Greg, I just discovered this thread. This is awesome.

I wish I could read all your articles, but that would take me seemingly forever.

In any case, thank you very much!

Glad you're enjoying it

They vary in quality a bit, I could use some way for a new person to see the most interesting ten "at a glance" but I'm not sure how I'd begin to go about quantifying which ones those are!

New post. Working through issues with a domain in Genesis but getting into more general theories of metapowers.

The Paradox of Catch Up Mechanics

Last week's was really unpopular. Any thoughts on what was wrong with it so that I don't write another one like that?

This is impressive. Full transparency here, I haven't read anything yet but your effort to compile such an extensive list just got your content added to my bookmarks. Can't wait to dive in and thank you!

Hi John, hope you find interesting things in there

I find that talking about the pricinples of game design is helpful for solidifying my thinking and for getting me to follow them. I certainly don't always succeed (I'm not proud of every game I've made) but it's good to do.

If it helps other designers find shortcuts and learn from my mistakes then it's well worth getting out there!

Came here to link a new post:

New Post:
Icons, boundaries and revisions

I've put it in Genesis since it's got images of prototypes for that game so will make a good part of the story of it becoming a thing.

I wanted to write about the thing with Wizards and paying artists and how much I'd like to pay artists and why I can't and what I'm doing to fix it and what'd have to happen in the industry...but I found it too complex and too confusing and at times too sad. Maybe I'll take a shot at the subject again later.

Awesome stuff - I've read a good chunk of this over the years, but somehow had missed this post. Good idea to create an index of your articles .... makes me think I should do the same at some point. I don't really like the way that the BGG blog feed works (and the default settings for most users).

I'd love to claim it as my idea but I'm pretty sure one of my readers suggested making the index and I just sort stuck with it.

Of course now I regret some of my "clever" titles and wish I'd made them more descriptive - I can't always find what I'm looking for if I want to reference a previous post
