It is not released yet, but after looking and reading the rules of A handful of stars, i think this more of a Moo game than this. Hard to decide which one to buy..???? For me, my pc favourite is Moo2 Antares, A handful of stars is nearer. Exploration, inhabitable + uninhabitable worlds, attacking others... But the Moo boardgame have all the familliar names. Don't know yet, what i will buy.

MOO the board game is more of a tableau building game streamlined that could be played under an hour. I like MOO, I like tableau building, and I like short games.

But if you are looking for a 4x recreation, doubt you'll findi t here.

If you dig Master of Orion, you might be interested in the game that inspired it (inspired the computer game at any rate): Stellar Conquest

I agree with Sphere on this. Stellar Conquest is pretty much the precursor to all space 4X games, board or computer.
