Oh! I have not thought about fjord in a minutes very cool. At first I didn't think of patchwork as an abstract but I can see it.

Very nice.

I do not submit and shackle myself to arbitrary rules forcing myself to do stuff.

I play games for fun, with friends and family with the time allocated and I mostly let them chose the games they want to play, so we can all have fun.

I've expanded my collection out to the point where it is time to play what I have for a while. In thinking about it for a moment, the top four of this list I am pretty sure would happen this year. The others may or may not, but it will be interesting to see.

1. Charterstone
2. Gloomhaven
3. Arcadia Quest
4. Dominion
5. Near & Far
6. Mice & Mystics
7. Doodle Quest
8. Five Tribes
9. Kingdomino
10. Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn

(Edited to remove quote and comment not pertinent to the 10x10

As for letting them choose, that's why the bulk of my 10x10 was created by my wife (who agreed to partner up with me for this challenge). I see this as a way to deepen the connection between the two of us for gaming. The challenge falls into line with other New Year's Resolutions, the goal to stretch ourselves as people/gamers in ways we are not automatically going to do.

Also, my wife would rather play the same game instead of learning new ones, so for me, this challenge is a way of getting her to commit to 100 games in one year.

I believe these sets of rules can help increase the fun I have with the people I play with. That's why I decided to do the challenge. I don't think anyone here is forcing everyone to do this challenge. Besides, claiming that we are doing the challenge calls for some accountability, which will help us fulfill this "resolution"

My list was originally posted in the "What games are you playing this week" thread, but I repeat it here:
Viticulture Essential Edition (Including expansions)(2/10)
Skull King (this should be easy) (2/10)
For Crown & Kingdom (0/10)
Cribbage (0/10)
Azul (so that maybe I can beat her once at this game) (3/10)
Chess (one of the first games we played together) (0/10)
Pixel Tactics (my choice, want to dig into this game, I've got the entire collection) (0/10)
Othello (wife asked about it, nice to have classics on the list) (0/10)
Sellswords (goes with Othello pretty well) (0/10)
?Mystery Game? (leaving this open for one new game that I can teach my wife over the course of the year). (0/10)

I will continue my gaming habit. Last year I did a Play365 - at least one physical game every day. Solo, with kids, with friends, my wife... doesn't matter. I track the online plays on top of that, but the habit is to make the time to game daily.

Here's where it led me last year:

The 10 x 10 is for both me and my wife ...

... but ... when it comes to Cribbage, one of my coworkers has a semi-Annual Cribbage Tournament that I've gone to. That's lots of fun. For the most part, though, I don't tend towards the competitive scene. Usually due to time, practice (I don't play enough of the classics or any game in particular to be good), and not knowing when the competitions are.

So all for fun.

My wife and I are teaming up in a 10x10 and a 3x3 this year. It is our first such challenge. We figure it will help us spend more time together - away from the TV.

I posted about it here: https://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/72364/2018-blue-frogs-gam...

10x10 challenge:
Catan: Cities & Knights
Terraforming Mars (with drafting)
Lords of Waterdeep (probably with expansion)
Orléans: Deluxe Edition (with expansion, no co-op)
Castles of Mad King Ludwig (expansion optional)
Innovation Deluxe (expansions optional)
Mystic Vale (expansions probable)
Ra: The Dice Game
7 Wonders Duel
Istanbul (currently don’t own any expansions)

3x3 space battle challenge:
Star Trek: Fleet Captains
Star Wars: Imperial Assault
Star Wars: Rebellion

This will be in addition to finishing out Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 together and whatever else we play with other friends and family.

So far we're 5 games into the 109 game challenge and she has won every game...

The habit led to the YxY too:

I ended up doing:

67 Through the Ages (app/online)
30 Santorini
25 Sagrada
23 A Feast for Odin
19 KLASK
17 Concordia (table/online)
16 Avenue
16 Rolling America
16 Ice Cool
16 The Voyages of Marco Polo (table/online)
15 Spirit Island
15 Onirim (+ TONS on the app untracked)
14 FUSE
13 Terraforming Mars
12 For Sale
12 Deep Sea Adventure
12 Harry Potter: Hogwart's Battle
11 Ginkgopolis (mostly table, some online)
11 PitchCar
10 Nippon (mostly online, some table)
10 STRIKE
10 Kanban (mostly online, some table)
10 Prototypes
10 The Colonists

So any way I slice it, I have an organic 10x10 of heavier games, a ton of family gaming, and I love how it turned out. Way more fun than the specific commitment to a 10x10 which I tried the year before but my wife wasn't as keen on the constraint.

The habit was the way to go for me.

I'll partake. I've already had 33 plays in January so I'm rolling along!

10X10

Rhino Hero Already played this 14 times (13 with the 4 year old)
Terraforming Mars Should be easy with solo plays
Freedom: The Underground Railroad 4 down, should be easy solo
The Prodigals Club This one will prove difficult, but it's one of my favorites.
Pulsar 2849 Just got the game. But will prove hard without my wife into it!
La Granja: No Siesta Mostly will play solo
Strat-O-Matic Baseball No brainer. My most played game
Bugs in the Kitchen Will try to force myself to play with my family at least 10 times. Already have 4 in.
The Godfather: Corleone's Empire Played a decent amount last year. See if i still enjoy after that many plays.
Sagrada Assuming my FLGS gets a copy in soon!!!!

How are everyone's 10x10 going? My guess is that the more we keep this thread near the top, the better we will be at holding each other accountable.

Since I listed my 10x10, I got a couple of games of Othello in and another few games of Viticulture (the last game I made two wines and ended up winning at the first tie breaker - most lira).

Looking forward to seeing how everyone else is doing!
