Calling all train gamers! Our 18xx group is looking to start hosting a monthly 18xx game day. If you are interested in learning or playing more 18xx games and are in the area we will gladly have you. Below you can find all the relevant information, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

We will be meeting up on the third Sunday of every month at my home in Garden Grove, starting at 10 AM and ending around 6 PM. I am located right off the 22 Freeway at Knott/Goldenwest and I have room to host two tables currently, accommodating somewhere between 10 and 12 people. I have two small dogs if allergies are a concern; for the most part they are pretty mellow although they tend to get excited when people arrive.

Finally, I ask that if you do wish to attend please know what you are getting into if you are new to 18xx games. We have no problem whatsoever teaching new players who wish to learn but 18xx games are not for everyone, especially due to the length of some games. We are able to finish a game of 1889 in three hours and that is considered short for games of this genre.

If you are interested in attending, please send me a GeekMail so I can send you my address. Once again, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Garret

I suggest you approach https://www.meetup.com/So-Cal-Game-Connection/

Paul (under organizers) may well like the idea of 18xx games. I would meetup mail him your plans.

(Myself, I'm pretty much off 18xx and AoS-related games, though I'll play "crayon rails" in the right mood.)

We had six players this month and we played a game of 1822, finishing in six hours. The opening phase of the game was brutal with so many people starting majors and minors at once but we all survived and had a good time. The next game day is scheduled for 5/20, hope to see you here.

We had six people attend this month, one table played 1841 while the other table played 1860. We didn't have enough time to get a second 18xx in so we ended the day with Chicago Express and Modern Art.

Next month we will be meeting a week later than normal on 6/24 due to Father's Day, hope you all can make it.

Hmmmm, a third Chris. I don't know if this is going to work, we've already fulfilled our quota of people named Chris. We are looking for some Johns though

Please do keep us in mind when you do get settled in. We have a couple of people that come from LA to attend so you guys might be able to set up a carpool. Good luck with your move and hope to see you later this year.

Thanks to everyone who made it out for our June meetup. We had seven attendees this month with one table playing a game of 1849 and the other table playing the medium regional scenario in 1822.

We are back on schedule for every third Sunday of the month so our next scheduled gathering will be on 7/15. We are now sitting around nine to ten regulars each month across two tables so we've got room for a few more. I'm happy to add another table to increase the limit to 12 or 13 so if you're thinking of joining us there is no better time than now! Happy gaming and hope to see you here.

I'm itching for more 18xx and love attending this monthly meetup. At the risk of an overplay, would anyone be interested in a 1st Sunday of the month meetup at my house in Mission Viejo? This would be an attempt to make bi-weekly 18xx a thing for anyone in Orange County or beyond (that wants to drive).

Let me know if there is interest. Otherwise I'll see you at Garret's on 7/15!

I’d love to attempt to make some of these but unfortunately I can’t commit to anything more than that currently. I’d probably be on a month by month basis and even then it’d be a week of type decision.

I’ve already messaged those that we’re planning to attend but to anyone else interested I have to move this month’s meetup back one week to 7/22. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thanks to all that attended this month and for accommodating my unexpected date change. We had eight attendees this month; one table played 1841 and 1857 while the other table played 18USA. The next meetup is scheduled for 8/19, hope to see you here.

We had our best showing this month with 11 people attending, playing games across three tables. One table played 1856, another table played 1857 and 1889. My table played 1841 and Container as we didn’t have time to fit in a second 18xx. Thanks to everyone who attended, our next meetup is scheduled for 9/16. Hope to see you here.

So there’s a couple items of note from this month’s meetup. This was the first month where I had to turn away people from attending simply because we had so many responses and I’ve hit capacity for my home. We ended up having 13 people respond but with some last minute illnesses and cancellations we only had 10 attendees, still a fantastic turnout if you ask me.

My table played a four player, five hour game of 1880 with one player who was entirely new to the 18xx genre. Scores were 7600, 6700, 5300 and 4500. The other table played a six player game of 18Ireland. As always, thanks to everyone who was able to attend.

Finally, there will be no meetup in October so the next gathering will be on 11/25, the weekend of Thanksgiving. Hope to see you here.
