Welcome to the Star Realms Masters Series, Events Discipline!

This is the main competition thread for the Events Discipline in Season 2 of the Star Realms Masters Series, while there will be plenty of information contained here, additional information can be found in the main thread:

Star Realms Masters Series – main discussion & announcement thread

The Fleets discipline is centered on competition using the Crisis: Events digital expansion and the Colony Wars Base Set for this season. Players who have qualified for the discipline should subscribe to this thread.

The Qualifier tournament, the Grind and the Exhibition tournament will all be played with format W-E, while the Crossover tournaments on the Circuit for this discipline will be W-1E, W-BE, W-EH, W-EF, W-EC, & W-E2. There are eight chances to earn an entry into the Mastery Invitational; by being the highest discipline finisher in any of the six Crossover tournaments, winning the Exhibition tournament, or finishing first in the Grind. If a player earns an invite through multiple means, their extra spot(s) will be awarded to the next highest finisher in The Grind. All discipline members will participate in the Mastery Open Tournament. Both halves of the Mastery Tournament will be W-E.

Qualifier Tournament
The Qualifier tournament is a six-round swiss competition. In each round, players will be paired up a play a 2-Game match in the prescribed format, recording the match result in Challonge as a win for a player winning both games, or a tie if the players split the games. In general, the Top-16 players will qualify (specifics in main thread). Trophy points will be awarded to qualifiers: 9-10 games won = 1 TP, 11-12 games won = 2 TP, 13-14 games won = 3 TP.

The Grind
Over the course of the season, discipline members will compete in a round-robin competition. Each week facing a different discipline peer in a two game set. The winner of the Grind will earn a spot in the Mastery Invitational. Trophy points will be awarded for performance in the Grind based on positional finish.

Crossover Tournaments
Each crossover tournament will be a double-elimination tournament that the members from two separate disciplines will come together to compete in, using the combined expansion format. All matches in the upper bracket will be played as best-of-three games, while matches in the lower bracket will be played as single-games. The final match will be played as a lop-sided best-of-five. The winner receives 4 trophy points, second and third place each earn 3 trophy points, fourth through eighth each earn 2 trophy point, and ninth through sixteenth all receive 1 trophy point. Participants who are members of both disciplines will receive the full amount of rewarded trophy points toward their ranking in both disciplines.

The Exhibition
The exhibition tournament will be a single-elimination tournament open to discipline members and non-members. Each match will be best-of-three games. There will be no trophy points awarded in the exhibition, but the winner, regardless of if they are a discipline member or not, will earn a spot in the Mastery Invitational. This event is designed to allow more players to participate in the seasonal proceedings, even if they fail to qualify for a discipline.

Mastery Tournament
Both halves of the mastery tournament are single elimination, and matches will be played as best-of-three games by default. Entry into the Invitational half requires winning the Exhibition, being the highest finishing discipline member in any of the Crossover tournaments, or finishing at the top of the table in the Grind, with extra spots (due to players qualifying multiple ways) going to the next highest finishers in the Grind. In the Open half of the tournament, advantages will be given to players who have accumulated more trophy points than their opponents. The idea is to place an appropriate level of importance on performance in earlier tournaments, while still allowing any member a reasonable chance at winning the mastery. The winners of the Open and the Invitational will then face off in a best-of-five to determine the discipline master.

ThrrMezaz challenged twice.
We played a League match and forgot about the Grind. Oops.

Dear Arcesius,

My cutlery drawer is now full. Didn't need that many FORKS. At least, that's how I explained my language to my kids.... zombie goo

At least it was a fast death: total 25 turns for two games gulp

Love and kisses,

dlow.

Wrong challange send to calebquincy. I send commands onstead of cosmics. Things that happen when you are tired. Of course, and I say it right now, the valid one is the one with Cosmic, even if I’ll play the other for the pleasure of playing it.

After fighting my way through five sudden-death Losers' Bracket games, and making it back to the Grand Final, who do you reckon I find waiting there for me, hmmm?

And Arcesius keeps up the pain, winning our first game in 13 turns (ref quote above for the last time we played...). Including the freebie, that gives Arcesius a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five final, and leaves me looking for the biggest comeback since Lazarus zombie gulp

My "pet" format in this series, too cry

Man, congrats on making it to the finals. The lower bracket is not easy, no margin for error..

And the first game was close! Great game, I thought. I didn't know about the freebie though, and this new game we started doesn't look too good for me either... so, it's not over until it's over!

Good luck!

Well, I lasted 23 turns in that one, but lost it on turn 5 - straight after your post! Good work, well played - I think you were the only player to take a game off me in this format...and you took four out of four gulp Too good for me; 4-0 isn't just luck.

At least now I can concentrate on the other formats

Well yeah, me getting the Incinerator was good, but I was left with no damage whatsoever (sac'ing the Gunship to get it). It was luck that the first time the Incinerator came out, I could copy it with Stealth Tower and scrap 4 for 16 damage, but even then I new that it was going to be a longer game, and that I needed to survive. Which is why I went full bases..

Either way, well played from your side as well! And good luck in the other formats

The Events and Cosmic Crossover has come to a conclusion.

After dominating all the way through the winners bracket, Arcesius was able to fend off the lower bracket contender dlow, who'd managed a 5 game win streak in order to challenge. Arcesius gets the invite to the Events Mastery Invitational tournament.

Events members did well against Cosmis, earning 6 of the top-8 spots (two crossover players), with 9 members earning trophy points. (1st = 4 TP, 2nd/3rd = 3 TP, 4th/5th/7th = 2 TP, 9th/13th = 1 TP)

1, Arcesius
2, dlow
3, Agamon
4, Poca
5, Dusto
7, calebquincy
9, Ominous & Zwivix
13, Duirin

Today is the start of the Grind, Round 07.

there are two matches from earlier rounds:
Round 03: Dusto vs. dommola
Round 06: ThrrMezaz vs. Agamon

The Events & Heroes crossover is moving along pretty well, the furthest behind match just started yesterday, so I'm sure it will start zipping along to a conclusion soon. trophy points for this have been added in the standings, a "+" means the player is still in the tournaments, and has the potential to earn more than their current total shows.

In Events & Fleets, there are a couple matches that need some TLC:
Magnetic vs. ThrrMezaz (best of three)
Zwivix vs. AgentSeto (best of three)

Five out of five...go away, leave me alone, stop bullying ("beating") me cry Sir, you appear to have my number...!! And in 14 turns, so I guess I'm on speed-dial Seriously, though, well played.

One good outcome from that game (Events/Heroes crossover, Losers quarterfinal) was that I got to test something on the last turn that I've been meaning to try for a while: can I destroy one of my own bases with a "destroy target base" effect? [Answer, for those who were previously clueless like me: no, not in the app]. I was going down by 1 point on that last turn regardless, so putting a Warning Beacon into play wasn't going to matter either way to your Lancers.

Given how simple I expect it would be to implement (?), though, it would be nice to see the option...
