Puts a HUGE smile on my face!

(Plus I recently discovered that she sings lead in The Residents song Picnic Boy!)

I also need to read his book, Wolf in White Van... he's one of us:

Isolated by a disfiguring injury since the age of seventeen, Sean Phillips crafts imaginary worlds for strangers to play in. From his small apartment in southern California, he orchestrates fantastic adventures where possibilities, both dark and bright, open in the boundaries between the real and the imagined. As the creator of Trace Italian—a text-based, role-playing game played through the mail—Sean guides players from around the world through his intricately imagined terrain, which they navigate and explore, turn by turn, seeking sanctuary in a ravaged, savage future America.

They're another one I've always meant to check out but I get a weird anxiety when it comes to bands with big discographies, thinking I'm going to start with the "wrong" album and turn myself off. Are there any you (or anyone) would recommend for a first listen?

I can't stop listening to this, it's one of the best live recordings I've heard of these guys and I don't think I've ever gotten such a sense of sheer volume from a video as the shift out of the intro at 1:25, that bass just disintegrates me:

edit: Brian Chippendale's "Uh-huh cool" just makes it that much better

I'm no expert, but I have listened to (most of, if not all) of their albums at this point. I think my favorite two, after going through all of them, are All Hail West Texas and Tallahasse.

Raz, this thread isn’t called „present us new bands!“

But, just for you, a song you don’t know perhaps, yet, combined with a masterful, artful clip.

That's where Allmusic.com comes in. Helps you pick out a good starting point for a band.

As for the Mountain Goats, they rate 3 albums as 4.5 stars (Nine Black Poppies, Tallahassee and The Sunset Tree), with The Sunset Tree as the recommended starting point.

Oh no not necessarily new bands, I was mostly commenting on what I felt was a big lack of originality. I'm all for novelty and sadly these two bands don't do it for me.

I'd rather have Kevin Moore's Office of Strategic Influence

Ah, okay, in this case you’re right, my Metal taste is rather restricted and not really open to much experiments..guess it’s time to lean back and just watch what other Metalers have to share meeple

A friend of mine is playing music in a garage band and put the stuff on-line. I've been enjoying it. Not sure what it is really... Sounds like old school rock I guess

Industrial dark ambient with a little of post black and a LOT of heart and passion and true darkness.

This record is something else.

Okay so let's blast this thread:

Cathedral was just too good to be true. So unique. This isn't as crazy as the summit whatever one with synth and sax but it was still pretty good. Insane album. Especially Hopkins

I HOPE YOU BURN IN HEEEEEELL! Because you're an evil maaaaan. Your heart belongs to the Deviiiiil.
Luv it

I love Erykah Badu. But not as much as Eska Mtungwazi. I love her voice and energy!

I wish Soweto, just like Esperanza Spalding, would revert to the style of his beginnings. Both are doing stuff I barely can listen to nowadays when it was so crazy good at first!

Bruce Springsteen's latest, *Western Stars* is a spare, heartfelt album and the closer is *Moonlight Motel*, an amazing sad winsome song. Just love it:

This is great, I definitely have to check out the new album. I always love Bruce and his acoustic. This one from the Wrestler is one of my favorites:

And anything from Nebraska which is absolutely beautiful...
