During this weeks episode:

1) The Pegs discuss some of their recent game plays including Warsaw: City of Ruins, Shadows of Koyoto, Drop It, and many more;

2) All the Pegs review the action selection game Carthago; and

3) Revisit Sentient.

FUN FACT: I can still type this with one eye.

I still haven't gotten to play this!!! How competitive can you be, if just playing with friends, without buying a ton of cards? I'd like to at least get a couple of starters and booster packs, but I'm not really interested in competitive play at tournaments and such. I did that with HeroClix, and the acquisition disorder got completely out of hand.

Drafting/Sealed is the only way to go. Its great to play casually with my kids, and the drafting tourney scene in my area is pretty strong.

I admit, not even remotely my taste or interest. Moreover, I find some of what I have seen of their world view to be more than a little problematic. But I admit that my exposure is limited and have read a few articles that indicates the community is socially active and working to learn and grow past its casual misogyny and homophobia. Not saying any of that is excusable, it most certainly is not. However, I don't want to be reactionary or reductionist, based upon my biases or pre-conceptions. If they have grown, I commend that. (That said, I don't know enough to form an opinion and reserve the right to form a contrary opinion if I learn more that contradicts this.) Never going to be for me, but I am not going to deny, I was mildly intrigued by (which is not the same as interested in) the world building to which the card game alluded.

The starter packs are great by themselves. The first one was Rey & Finn in one box vs. Kylo and a First Order Stormtrooper in the other. Very fun right out of the box, and what got me into the game. You can actually still find these some places.

Then they released a larger box set that had both decks at once. This one was Rey and Poe vs. Kylo & Phasma. Again, very fun and balanced on its own. I actually just saw one of these at Best Buy for 9 dollars! They were originally 30, but they overproduced them. You can also still get 'em at Target.

The most recent starters are Luke & Han in one box vs. Boba Fett and a Veteran Stormtrooper.

Be careful buying boosters. The deck building is based on points, so it's kind of a puzzle. If you pull something cool, it could trigger you wanting to buy more and more in order to make a certain deck work!

"...is that they are the horror movies of rap."

Is what you would have heard me say. Robb has his horror movie month every year and the Pegheads are cool with that, so I thought it might help people understand why I enjoyed the game.

Hope you finished the episode! Whoop Whoop!
