Inspired by calvinc71's electrical box sci-fi buildings, I set about creating my own. I bought a handful of bits and bobs from Home Depot, but was unsatisfied by the variety and realism. I decided to buy some sprues of the Pegasus Hobbies Chemical Plant off eBay. I'm glad I did, the pieces are fantastic for sci-fi terrain.

for the idea (see page 18)

I'm going to try to finish these up while I wait for my Khurasan miniatures to arrive. I'm going to start a solo campaign of Five Parsecs From Home (Second Edition).

Those look FANTASTIC!!!

On a less DIY note, I just put together my MDF wrestling ring for RUMBLESLAM. I chose wire for my "ropes". I like the look of laser cut MDF a lot, so I am not going for a full-on painting of this one. I think I am just going to do some metallic brassy details, which combined with the burnt wood look of the MDF and the silver wire ropes should combine to give a bit of a steampunk look to it when it's done.

These sci-fi buildings are so cool that I desperately want to make my own...even though I don't play any games that are even slightly related to such a setting. laugh

Maybe I'll ask my DM if our 5e campaign can take a bit of a Chrono Trigger turn?? robot

Asking DM to incorporate terrain I want to use has been a great way to get stuff to the table.

Well I had an absence from this thread (and any painting/terrain threads, and most others) for the best part of a month as I got behind on my subs as I was too busy building stuff...

I know I was gone a while as someone who frequents these parts messaged me to see how I was getting on with my builds.

As you may know, I'm on the spectrum and find it very hard to properly interact in a thread like this unless I've read (or at least scanned) every post to date. So when I get behind it can snowball and I have to wait til I get time to catch up with hundreds of posts across tens/hundreds of threads...

Anyway, my Aliens-inspired APC and Dropship haven't progressed. Nor have my Ziggurat and Henge advanced yet - though I have downloaded an image of Alan Moore's Aklo alphabet (from Providence) to use when deciding on my stone inscriptions. Think I can transcribe some suitable mythos phrases into Aklo.

But I've also been working on shedloads of other stuff that's in various states of 'getting there'. These include, but aren't limited to:

Skips and a Skip Transport Truck:

Various small bits and bobs including wire fences, wooden fences, street lamps, tall grass and barbed wire traps:

I made a papercraft barn and warehouse, over foamcore shells with opening doors and removable roofs:

Made some progress (more than shown) on my chemical works and futuristic buildings:

Made some bug holes (especially useful for Operation Last Train or Starship Troopers Miniatures Game:

As I decided my Aliens-inspired Dropship was a bit too big for OLT, I've been working on a smaller ship that can carry cargo containers (or a yet-to-be-built specialised drop pod):

With hinged cargo grabs:

And I know it's not terrain, but I've been doing some work on trying to making a scratch Brainbug and Plasma Bug for Starship Troopers:

But the biggest project, that has taken up 25+ hrs the past week, is my modular, easy-store Church:

The modular nature means you can use the main building alone, or use the wings and belltower as a standalone chapel and watchtower.

The bell/watch-tower also has floors inside - and a space cut for the rope to the miniature bell I've ordered...

I had been trying to plan stairs for in the tower before realising that the effort wasn't worth it when a ladder would do (which is on the removable wall).

Hopefully it'll all look better when sealed and painted, and I might do individual card slates on the church roof, but I'm very pleased with progress so far. Course it means I need to spend even more time on altar, pews, baptismal font, cross, pulpit etc etc etc

Note that, other than the skips and bug holes, nothing has been painted and most things aren't finished ready to paint yet.

You may wonder why I've not just finished one thing rather than getting a bazillion half-built things...

Again, it's partly down to me being on the spectrum: I'd rather get a load of builds ready to seal and paint together at once. If that makes no sense then you're probably not atypical in the way I am!

Anyway - that's a brief update on what I'm doing that has kept me from posting much in the past month.

Oh - just remembered I've also been making lots of foamcore inserts to try efficiently storing my games and also doing work on a Yog Sothery skirmish system... One day I hope to actually play a game again!

EDIT: I'll probably post a photo when they're complete, but I'll be putting more detailed entries about these on my BGG blog:The Colour Out of Place

I was tempted by some of the Terrain Crate stuff at the game store yesterday, but then thought about the Battle Systems stuff eventually coming from the kickstarter. So I left with just a couple of washes/paints.

Have you seen Rangers of Shadow Deep: Ghost Stone? 2 scenrios require 10-15. Rangers of Shadow Deep: Temple of Madness is level 5-15 too.

Or were you hoping for higher?

I think it'd be hard to even get to level 15 without replaying Burning Light a few times on fail. Not sure about Ghost Stone, but if you fail Temple of madness you revert to before you went in. Failure a second time is death. It's a really hard set of missions too.

I wanted to bring the below Kickstarter to the thread's attention. I have no connection whatsoever and am not a backer (though I am thinking hard about it). It seems an ideal product for those of us doing solo gaming. The hard plastic terrain seems very good and the themes come across strongly. As someone who owns Fallout WW and is looking to go big on the Elder Scrolls miniatures game, this is looking like a no-brainer to save money on terrain from Modiphius.

The name of the campaign is: Dungeons & Lasers: Plastic Tabletop Scenery

I hope no rules are being broken in me posting the link

I was just looking at that an hour or so ago. Looks pretty nice.

It really does. I've struggled finding quality terrain that isn't expensive. I don't minis game outside of board gaming proper to make the investment worthwhile. But $100 for a robust themed set and a few more rooms seems like a good deal to me.
