Hi Everyone

Introduce yourself below sharing as much or as little information as you like:

Who are you?
My name is Teena, the organiser of the Cruise Club. I am travelling alone on the cruise.

Describe yourself
I live in Sydney. I organise Sydney Tabletop Games, and I've always wanted to do a cruise event, I decided that it was just time! In my spare time I play D&D, Call of Cthulhu RPG, and paint minis, I also dance as a hobby.

Is this your first cruise?
Nope

What games do you like?
I personally gravitate towards medium to heavy strategy games, with a staple of lighter abstract games for when I'm feeling a bit tired.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Apart from playing board games, and eating and drinking to my hearts content, based upon last year, the beaches in New Caledonia are amazing, so I'm looking forward to those again. I hope I get to kayak over some coral again!

Who are you?
I'm Lisa, nice to meet new peoples!

Describe yourself
Melbourne based, I'm a self-diagnosed geek who is into tabletop roleplaying, Parlour LARP, sci-fi/fantasy media, musicals, some video games and more recently board games. I help run the Melbourne Conquest convention over Easter, which will be stealing all of my spare time for the next couple of months!

Is this your first cruise?
No, but it is the first time I'll have been on the Carnival Spirit. My first trip on a Carnival ship was on the Legend early last year, I'm looking forward to seeing how the Spirit is similar and different!

What games do you like?
Seems to vary a bit. I don't really know how they are all classified by most people, but I tend to enjoy ones that are thematic, and with mechanics that aren't too silly. Terraforming Mars is my very favourite at the moment, but I also really enjoy Stone Age, Splendor, Dixit and Codenames.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Meeting new people, drinking too much, eating too much, watching some fun performances, and between board games maybe finding a nice sunny couch by a window to read and look out to sea.

Who are you?
My name is Joel

Describe yourself
I live in Melbourne I live with my 6 year old son. I am a music teacher as my full time job, but I love playing board games as a way to relax.

Is this your first cruise?
No I have been on a P and O one, but not a Carnival one.

What games do you like? I love playing solo board games as I find it relaxing. My favorite ones are Lord of the Rings LCG, Mage Knight, Nemo's War and Anachrony. I have a monthly board game group and we tend to play a lot of co-op games.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?

Spending some fun times with my son and spending most of the time playing games with others!

I don't know if I have done this right - I hit "reply" as couldn't see how to make a new post on this thread... I usually only use BGG to look at games and add to my collection, so sorry if I've done it wrong!

Who are you?
I'm Melanie, from Emu Plains. I'll be bringing my wife, Julie, and our son, Theo, on the cruise (he'll be 3).

Describe yourself
My life is pretty much board games, piano, family & friends! Oh, and I work, too, but I'm not passionate about that. I like playing with game design ideas, too, but haven't got anything off the ground - I have a lot of unfinished projects! I'm learning piano (my wonderful teacher is also coming on the cruise), and am working on second grade this year.

Is this your first cruise?
Yes, first time ever on a cruise ship, so I'm pretty excited!

What games do you like?
I like a mix of things. Sometimes I like something light and silly, and mostly I like medium-weight euros. Some of my favourite mechanics are worker placement, deck-building and deduction, including social deduction and escape games. Some favourite games: 7 Wonders, Feast for Odin, Terraforming Mars, Rajas of the Ganges.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
I actually have no idea! Games, views, swimming, possibly some adult time if our son is in the kids club! Mostly just looking forward to relaxing!

Sheldon

Describe yourself

Have been gaming a long time, 40+ years so have ended up old and bald. Regular Cancon attendee for a while. I'll be travelling on my own.

Is this your first cruise?

No, did a three day comedy cruise out of Sydney. It was apparent then that the days are a wasteland in terms of entertainment. So I'm looking forward to be able to fill that downtime with gaming.

What games do you like?

Not entirely sure what light and mid-weight mean. Not fond of simplistic arithmetic games, so not overfond of things like Modern Art. I like a broad range of games and am at my best in games that resist analysis. Happy with anything from CodeNames to Battle for North Africa. Am a sucker for games with hidden elements, Fury of Dracula, Battlestar Galactica, Flight of the Goeben etc.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?

Mixing gaming with some more social activities.

Introduction
Who are you?
I'm Brad, from the Lower North Shore area in Sydney. I'll be bringing my wife, Liz (20th Wedding Anniversary), our two kids (17 & 12 - hardly kids any more) and my Mom, Sue on the cruise (Birthday surprise for her).

Describe yourself
IT professional by day, gamer by night (My family like playing games, but not to the same extent I do). I also like to keep fit (running, cardio, basic training, etc. - hit me up if you want to burn off some buffet breakfasts together :) )

Is this your first cruise?
Yes, first time ever on a cruise ship for all 5 of us - it's still 5 months away, and we're already planning what we're going to do first!

What games do you like?
I play Magic: The Gathering, Keyforge and board games. I like "resource management" games (like Settlers of Catan), simpler games (like Ticket to ride, or Carcassonne), Thematic Games (like Betrayal at House on the Hill). I also like to play Terraforming Mars, 7 Wonders, Dominion... I'll pretty much play anything (probably easier to list what I don't play - I'm looking at you, Monopoly!)

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Well, I want to get as much of the "Ship Experience" as possible, as this will inform whether I ever go again... also play games, see New Caledonia Islands, Dive-in movies, eating, exercise... Really though looking forward to relaxing without Internet (as that's my whole life when I'm on land)!

I guess it's time for me to stop lurking and introduce myself.

Who are you?
My name is Richard. I am traveling by myself on the cruise, but took an opportunity to share a cabin.

Describe yourself
I live in Canberra. There is a healthy boardgaming community here, which enabled me to get back into the hobby after leaving it behind not long after starting university. Apart from the obligatory time at work, I also referee soccer/futsal, which gives me a thick skin, some extra pocket money to buy more games, and keeps me active.

Is this your first cruise?
Yes, so will happily accept any tips from previous cruisers.

What games do you like?
Most of them.

For every board game category, there will be some that I like and others that I don't. I enjoy many games that have a spatial or area-control element, but they can be euros, abstracts, race games, thematic or even wargames, but I also like many games without this element. The only game type I seem to consistently dislike are dice heavy games (I don't like lumps of plastic making my decisions for me - they often seem to make the wrong ones).
Some examples of games I rate highly: Twilight Struggle, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, Crokinole (I would love to bring my board, but it would be a logistical nightmare), Dixit, Snow Tails, Samurai.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Gaming - eating - sleeping; maybe some other things. :-)

I doubt I would consider a cruise if it wasn't for the board gaming, but I am becoming very curious as to how I will find it (I keep looking at the deck plans and other info). I am hoping to find some of the other activities worthwhile, as well as a little bit of downtime, perhaps on a beach.

Who are you?
I'm Mick, I will be travelling with my wife Karen (not a gamer), and 2 of our sons (Ash 18 and Lachy 15).

Describe Yourself
We live in Far North Coast of NSW near Murwillumbah. We have an online business selling papercraft products; we use to have a gaming website. Besides boardgaming with a couple of groups I do play a little World of Warcraft.

Is this your first Cruise?
No we have done a few, always better with a group.

What games do you Like?
I generally prefer medium/heavy strategy games, and don't mind a good dungeon crawler. I keen to give anything ago, especially games I have sitting in my cupboard unplayed.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Gaming, eating and a few cocktails.

I’m Travis. I’m Lisa’s fiancé. (Yes, the Lisa from up in the first reply.)

Describe yourself
I’m a curmudgeonly geek working on being old before my time. I love games of many types, and these days play more board games than roleplaying simply because they’re easier to organise. I’ve been around the RPG conventions for ages, and wander across to local board games conventions and PAX AUS and the like when they don’t clash.

Is this your first cruise?
Third, and the first was a three-day mini-cruise.

What games do you like?
Generally games with a significant strategy component, including decisions that matter and preferably aren’t obvious. That doesn’t mean they have to be complicated - light games with interesting strategy are still good, but some game use complexity to hide a lack of strategic depth, and those will bore me.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
The games will be vital for me, as by the end of my last cruise the lack of mental stimulation was starting to get to me. I anticipate the evening stage shows being worth seeing, though, and I’ll probably find some reading time.

Describe yourself
I live in Perth and I work a lot. I work as a carer for 4 beautiful children who are in of home care (can't currently live with family so living in residential care). I work 11 days a fortnight and get Friday-Sunday off work for the other 3 days.

Is this your first cruise?
No, this will be mine and Tina's third. We have pretty much done this cruise itinerary before with carnival and it was great.

What games do you like?

I personally gravitate towards medium to heavy strategy games, with a staple of lighter abstract games for when I'm feeling a bit tired.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Playing board games, playing the pirate coin game where you collect cards at the casino, not cooking, comedy shows and just chilling.

But most of all going to Amedee island! Seriously if you do one shore excursion this is the one, it is PHENOMINAL. Our last cruise had to have Noumea as a port so I could go here again, it is my favourite place on earth and I am thrilled to be going there again. It is an expensive shore excursion but its the whole day, traditional dancing while you eat buffet lunch, glass bottom boat tour, lighthouse to walk to the top of and the best bit, snorkelling with sea turtles. Its the best! Check out the website https://amedeeisland.com/

We are married, in our 30s, live in the Hunter Valley. We have 3 fur baby cats, and some feathered babies too. 1 cockatiel, 1 ringneck, 2 sun conures and 6 chickens.
Both geeks of varying interests.
Apart from boardgaming I collect 1980’s My Little Pony, Enjoy crafting (if I ever get the spare time!) and playing my Nintendo Switch.

Who are you?
My name is Ewen and I am from the Sunshine Coast. I am travelling with my sister Alex, her fiancée Ross, and his friend Michael, who are all from Canberra.

Describe yourself
Professionally I work as a software developer, but I like to perform in amateur theatre and do improv in my spare time. I play a lot of video games too, and I own a VR headest, but I never turn down an opportunity to play more board games.

Is this your first cruise?
Yes it is! I'm interested to see what activities I might be interested in besides gaming, though I'll probably end up gaming for most of the cruise anyway

What games do you like?
I'm a huge fan of theme in a game. Some of my favourite games are games that weave their theme into the game mechanics. If I can intuit rules that make thematic sense I think that's great. However, in saying that there are few games that I'd turn down a chance to play, and I like lots of games with absolutely no theme. I'm also a huge fan of deception and hidden traitor games. Just warning you now: I'm a good liar.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Getting to relax and play games with my friends as well as new acquaintances.

Who are you?
I am Josh, or "Dislexsick" by online handle

Describe yourself
I live in Adelaide, and work in IT by day; by night I game far too much and sleep far too little... yeah, I'm really looking forward to this as a holiday!

Is this your first cruise?
This is my second, I was on the cruise last year (which was my first ever cruise)

What games do you like?
I feel like just straight up copying Teena's answer here... But I wont.
Is everything a valid answer?
I like all sorts, previously I was endeared by new mechanics, but I feel like that's faded recently.
Preference goes to a good crisp, crunchy and meaty strategy Euro (e.g. FCM, Gaia Project) even if it has some random elements added I can still like them (e.g. Terraforming Mars, Through the Ages: A New Story ... ).
Then again I also like lighter games too - e.g. Stockpile is a great medium game I like despite being trash at it, and it being nearly the opposite of my fav games.
Dexterity games, as bad as I am at them also hold a place in my heart, (Drop It! being the recent fav)

I could go on and on and on here, let's just say everything, except what I don't like... my tastes are esoteric...

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
Mostly gaming. The rest I'll leave to arranging when I'm on the ship.
That 24/7 included icecream bar is going to be the death of me though! :O

Describe yourself
I currently live in Dubbo. I've been almost all over Australia. I'm into cars, computers and electronics. I would describe myself as a failed closet geek

Is this your first cruise?
Nope, but first board game focussed cruise. I can recommend Fiji as a cruise destination.

What games do you like?
Almost everything... it would be easier to say what I don't like. Games that screw you over rub me the wrong way IE Shadows of Camelot. I'll still play them though because I play more for the experience of the people than any one type of game.

What are you looking forward to doing onboard the ship?
the previous cruise I went on was only a small ship, so finding out what the big cruise experience has to offer will be fun. I'm an amateur scuba enthusiast so if there's a chance to dive you can bet I'll be there. Also having been to Noumea before I can highly recommend the Aquarium and the Tepanyaki restaurant. The locals are fantastic just avoid any of the hardcore French citizens... Our experience with them was... well let's just say I have no intention of ever going to France

First board game cruise and first with carnival but we have done two with Royal Carribean

Depends on how tired I am - some days I love a complex strategy game, sometimes I like silly light games. I have a soft spot for games with beautiful art. Lately i've been enjoying dexterity games also.
I also play D&D, other tabletop rpgs, and MTG if anyone wants to do some non board gaming.
