Here is an interesting piece of news about the hobby:

Corey Konieczka is leaving Fantasy Flight Games and will found his own company, Unexpected Games.

The first game will be released in 2020, and will be “a multi-layered experience that tells a story in a unique way”.

(Hopefully better than last year's flop, Discover: Lands Unknown).

This appeared in reedit a couple of years ago! He left FFG but it’s still under the umbrella of asmodee That was the word in reddit about this news!

But the new studio is still under Asmodee. Maybe I’m too cynical to see what the real impact is.

Corey was the first designer I knew by name though. Being new to the hobby a few years ago Gears of War was my first “big purchase” when I found a copy on eBay for $50.

I just read about it, I didn't know it was already in the works. Indeed the new studio is under Asmodee. Perhaps it's in the news now, because he will start publishing under the new company name.

Not sure if it makes any difference. He is a designer to follow for sure.

I wonder if he felt limited or pigeon-holed by having to work within established IPs (and licensed)? Just a guess. I really do like his designs overall. Space Hulk: Death Angel is a fantastic design. All of the moving parts work together so nicely.

I wholeheartedly agree, I recently bought Space Hulk: Death Angel and was impressed by the smartness of the design.

I didn't like the movie. I did like Prometheus, though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

In any case, I'm excited for the expansion.

In Yukon Airways, "you will be at the controls of your very own seaplane with the mission of transporting travelers (dice) to the different points of the Yukon".

(But why does it say YUKΩΝ on the cover? )

Reading the description makes me think it’s the grownup version of Richard Scarry's Busytown: Busy, Busy Airport Game and that’s a good thing! Though I don’t think we’ll get to fly our planes all over the house in Yukon Airways.

Thanks, Athena. I'm really keen to learn more about Pfister's latest, as I think Blackout was possibly the best thing I played in 2018.

And, being a huge fan of Uwe, nothing slams on the brakes of my enthusiasm more than a play-time of thirty minutes. Nusfjord was great, but it's about as light and slight as I'd want to go.

Hopefully next year brings a new Feast for Odin.

If I can interrupt to solicit an opinion - did Blackout offer much replayability? I'm intrigued, but it looks like there is a single solo "campaign," so I wonder if it is worth the investment.

A co-design, no less. I can't remember him ever doing that, before.

I didn't bother with the campaign fluff... it seemed to exist just to add a single rule to differentiate one out of five or so plays. I've just played the game, as is, in one-offs, the way I would Pandemic or some such. I saw no issue of replayability with it.

The first game by Uwe I owned is Babel. It has a second designer name on the box.
