Dear all,
my daughter (7) started school in summer and is now in an afternoon daycare center after school until 5 pm.
She boasted so much about gaming at home and how much fun that is so that the staff approached me to come and show the kids on a monthly basis (age 6 - 11 years old, some of which coming from families with small income).
Some of them know Monopoly, Chess, Catan: Junior, Mensch ärgere Dich nicht Kids and Fauna junior which they have freely available at the center.
How would you start? Some of them just started reading so too much reading may put them off.

I thought about
Memoarrr!
Rolling America
My First Bohnanza
Wizardry to the power of three.

I am also open to Print and Play as this would only be printing costs.

It should not be too expensive to make sure that the less well-off kids can afford such as well (10-12 EUR).

Thank you for your input!

Bianca

Sushi Go is normally a hit with kids in that age group once it is set up.

Bianca,
I taught a few games to a grade 1 and 2 class this fall. I posted about it here, https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2093109/grade-1-and-2-games...
Hope this helps.

I work with kids and a few times I had them play boardgames, so I'll simply tell you the game that really worked in my experience with kids 8 to 10 yo: Zombicide.

They loved it and had a lot of fun, on top of that: It's a coop, so it's very easy to have them play if an adult guide them supervising the rules (it's really necessary only at first), and you can deal with big numbers and shy kids who just spectate and give suggestions, and even from a pedagogical point of view that's a great age to start promoting cooperation more than "simple" competition (Young kids struggle with teamwork, so it's useful to promote it in a fun and playful context without physical "adversaries").

Given this, I believe that other simple coop games could work great, but I'm sure that Zombicide is a safe bet.

You should include Carcassonne. In addition to that Forbidden Island works really good at that age.

And the most important one imo: Dixit
