I'm a do-it-yourselfer interested in making a shogi set (or possibly more than one), but am having a hard time finding information on the exact sizes of the pieces.

I have figured out a the angles to use for a good looking piece (3 degrees for the face angles, 7.5 degrees for the sides and 15 degrees for the top), but I can't get a good enough sense of scale from the images I've found so far.

Can a few shogi-owners measure and post the heights of their pieces (from the base straight up to the peak at the top is all I need). I believe there are three different sizes of pieces, so if you could post the heights of each I'd appreciate it very much!!

For the characters, I'm thinking of having rubber stamps made for each unique piece (I have nice vector art of all the pieces needed). If it goes well I'll post images and even the the file of the characters if anyone else is interested.

Thanks for your help!

Shogi sets vary in size just like chess sets, from very tiny sets that use reversible pegs as pieces to giant sets with really big pieces. the only thing to remember is that unlike chess pieces that stand tall and are easily picked up, Shogi pieces are usually tiles and so need to be small enough to get your fingers between them to pick them up off a crowded board. So given a board with 1.5" wide spaces, I'd suggest that pieces in the 1-1.25" width range would work well.

You could measure them yourself.
I could send you a set of pieces like this for 30 GG:

Or offer to trade me a small game or some unusual dice for it.

According to website in Japanese by manufacturers' association in Tendo City at http://www.tendocci.com/koma/qa.htm, the dimension of the shogi piece is as following. It says the dimension may vary depending on a craftsman and it is not a strict rule to obey.

height(mm)width(mm)thickness(mm)angle(degree)
King 32 28.7 9.7 81
Rook, Bishop 31 27.7 9.3 81
Gold, Silver 30 26.7 8.8 81
Knight 29 25.5 8.3 81
Lance 28 23.5 8.0 81
Pawn 27 22.5 7.75 81

Outstanding reference, thank you for posting this!

For a laugh, here's how babelfish translates the names of the pieces:
King
Flying car angular line
Kin military officer silver military officer
Katsura horse
Fragrance car
