We had a situation come up last session regarding the definition of nearest. The text for a neutral monster said that it would move to the nearest player. When counting tiles they were both 5 distance away but one way had a large obstacle in the way. As far as nearest goes would you treat both these characters as an equal distant or would you factor in the obstacles when determining distance.

Obstacles make you spend extra movement points to leave the tile. Since that doesn't change how physically far away from each other the tiles are, and there is no definition of "nearest" in the rules that says to count movement points, both of those players are equidistant and the monster should move in whatever way is more favorable to the player controlling it.
