It’s a purple banner.
If you see that symbol somewhere in the game it will say to draw XXX, but if you have the banner to add that value, so draw card XXX+7

Along the way you will encounter purple flags with other symbols. In those cases do not add the +7 to the card number. This is the mechanic that allows different curses (quests) to occur on the same continent. Each curse (quest) has its own symbol. When you find purple flags with the correct symbol, you will know that you are going in the right direction in your quest. You have the choice to look for the card whose number is shown or the card that is 7 more.

There are also blue flags with symbols. These usually require you to have a special item that will tell you to add a number to the card number that you need to find.

Have fun.

I don’t agree, most of these questions are easily solved with reading the rules, which are better then you believe.
Like the case that people draw white cards, even if not instructed. The rules state that clearly, but people don’t seem to read that carefully

If one person is confused it's probably their problem. When many, many people are confused it's the game's problem.

Or, on the whole, reading comprehension has lessened. Which leads to a large chunk of repetitive questions that can be answered by reading this or any rulebook that is longer than one page.

Thing is, this leads to the inevitable "Why are there so many rules questions? There must be something wrong with the rulebook / this game." And yes, as others have mentioned, this doesn't mean there aren't problems with the rulebook, but there are far less than one would surmise from the amount of rules questions threads.

So yes, it is courteous to answer the question, or better yet, point directly to the page in the rulebook where the rule is explained. And it is also valid to point out that this is basic rules reading.

I think you are both overestimating both the quality of the rulebook and underestimating the reading comprehension ability of the average BGG poster. I'm an experienced gamer and I can tell you that the amount of times I've had to go back and forth with this particular rulebook trying to decipher minor points is not normal. The game has a great official video tutorial but the rulebook is not nearly as good.

We do agree on one thing though, saying nothing is better than just saying "read the manual" which is simultaneously unhelpful and rude.
