There has been interest in a solo variant for Kill Team among some of us minis folks.

Since there is further interest and it would be useful to aggregate the discussion in a dedicated space - here is a thread for exactly that!

Looking forward to the conversation.

Update:
All things solo Kill Team welcome... this isn't to discuss a particular variant but more a place to talk about how people are playing KT solo and everything that falls out of that discussion.

There's a 40K solo pdf out already. I haven't used it personally but others may find it interesting or helpful for a Kill Team variant.

Just for giggles, I did a super generic AI app for wargaming. Just to give you some options for the enemy to choose. It never went anywhere though.

Re: A solo variant for Kill Team?
This is really a different type of game https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/comments/aergjn/a_guide_to...

It's kill team with like some simple RoSD-esque rules for AI.

I'll also be trying out some randomization with The Solo System, and will report back here after I do both. I already cooked up a few ways to use the cards, was asking my wife questions about the game last time to provide some randomization and moves for the Team I wasn't rooting for much in the same way you could ask the solo system.

I have to finish painting another team though, I only have my buddies space marines, and my orks, and I don't want to play solo with his team because I feel like it's a little cheaty like studying up when he won't have the opportunity.

Next up I think is finally finishing Nurgle's Chosen, I have plans to use some green stuff bubbles and realistic water for slime on the bases.

I also think it might be useful for this to be a general discussion thread for those of us playing solo. I know I have been posting a lot about this in different places here and it might be useful to have a centralized place for all that stuff, lists, strategy, resources, etc, stuff that wouldn't really make sense as much on other threads and lists. Only given enough interest, though I guess.

Re: A solo variant for Kill Team?
I’d be happy to see anything solo Kill Team here.

However people are playing it solo is relevant to the discussion imo, and relevant to my interests!

I can always tweak the title at some point.

Yeah, I can see it definitely on SMoYT but I just don't want to derail 1pg Mini painting thread with game rules stuff.

Solo KT totally belongs on SMoYT, agreed!

I am saying that as a thread on solo Kill Team I don't see that this thread has to be dedicated to playing not-two-handed or anything. So maybe "solo variant" wasn't the best title.

If an actual and specific variant starts to become distilled into a thing it can have its own thread then for refinement.

Going to get a copy of Hostile Tactical AI to mess around with this too. Still hoping Josh spends some time on this game so we get some tweaks from him.

Kristin and FortheLoveofDice, this is mostly for your sake that I'm posting this here, I think the 3 of us are the most interested in this currently in the guild, that I know of.

I built a starting Kill team and have a few options left for a command roster in the Astra Militarum Focus.

(Astra Militarum) [100pts]
+ Leader +
Sergeant [5pts]: *No Regiment*, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword
. Leader

+ Specialists +
Guardsman [10pts]: Catachan, Vox Caster
. Comms
Scion Gunner [13pts]: Hot-shot volley gun
. Heavy
Scion Gunner [13pts]: Plasma gun
. Sniper

+ Non-specialists +
Guardsman [5pts]: *No Regiment* ........ (x6)(30pts)
Scion Gunner [13pts]: Meltagun
Special Weapons Gunner [8pts]: *No Regiment*, Flamer ........ (x2)(16pts)

Created with BattleScribe (https://battlescribe.net)

Had a chance to put them together tonight

The seargeant in the middle is a kit bash from a Tempestor spare parts from the Scions kit, and a regular Catachan soldier body. Pretty thrilled with how he turned out. Is going to make for an interesting backstory.

I started with only 3 scions with special weapons. I may adjust this as time goes on, to build another 9pt scion which may come in handy, and I want to save one of the mini bodies if I get into commanders as I can build a Tempestor Prime. If I do get commanders a Catachan command squad would give me more special weapons and more than enough to build a 150-200 pt team.

Hopefully, I'll have these finished to face off against the Orks when Hostile Tactical AI gets here. This is probably my most serious team, as I learned a lot after building the orks and I'm not making similar kinds of mistakes.

Bump, any recent progress on this?

I've been absorbed in reading all about miniatures games lately. I love euro games through and through and they are the bread and butter of my solo gaming but something about minis games has really taken hold and I can't stop reading about them.

I did order Fallout Wasteland Warfare to get a first taste of it since the game comes with an AI system but I'm waiting for some terrain to come in first before I give it a shot.

I've read a lot about Kill Team lately and the game sounds like a blast but was definitely curious how solo'able this was, other than fielding two separate warbands and playing an on-going campaign against yourself. While on paper it sounds fun in practice I'm not sure how much legs it has. I've played competitive card games against myself with the goal of building tournament brackets and such but always dropped it midway since playing two sides always got a bit exhausting. So not sure if it's worth dipping my toes in this or not.

The AI system in Fallout does seem promising. I wonder if there is a way to get something like that working here.

Alas, I got completely sidetracked by Warcry, and so I don't have my Kill Teams finished yet. But they are on the list... (long list that it is...)

I've played 2 handed a few times. It's pretty satisfying. I can never seem to beat myself.

As for solo system it just randomizes a few elements. Feels more like 2 handed than Hostile Tactical AI. Josh's AI though takes a little tweaking a creativity too. It fully automates a side in a way that isn't always compatible with game rules. So it's like half of the game is being played kill team, and half is being automated by an entirely different beast.

With Kill team I don't particularly recommend it solo exclusively. I would highly recommend getting a few teams and seeing if you can get friend to play, and play these solo systems in between if you're itching to test something out.'

By far FoWW has the more robust solo.

Be sure to join us over at Solitaire miniature games on your table when you start making some progress on whatever you decide

That's a shame. Really appreciate all the experimentation to get Kill Team to work Chris!

Until GW see's the light and gives us some solid solo gameplay I can see myself just using some 40K miniatures in FoWW and custom designing some character cards to match the mini's.

The core rules are pretty cheap to get so I might just use my Fallout terrain (Battle systems shanty town) and random board game miniatures and give it a shot that way. Not sure I can spend the time/cash to invest in official merch.

That sounds like a good idea. I really enjoy the building/painting part of things, so I'm into that, but I also plan to play with others.

I have this vaguely formed idea in my head to adapt some of the FoWW AI elements to Kill Team, with a sprinkling from other systems (I particularly like Core Space's system where the dice have an arrow on each side, and the actual direction the arrow points when the die lands not he table determines direction of movement)...

I should add, though - actually, if you buy the First Strike box, it's only ~$35 (at least on Amazon), and actually includes enough for two Kill Teams. Extra bonus - they are different colored plastic and are easy-to-build/push-fit. It's probably the cheapest way to get a couple Kill Teams together. I have it, with the Space Marines partially painted, but I may just go ahead and put all the rest together and play unpainted to get my hand in...
