We played an early development copy and I really liked it. But then again, I really enjoy one-versus-many games, which City of Angels is. Unlike Chronicles of Crime, Detective: City of Angels involves a lot more choices on the part of the players - particularly the The Chisel, the "nemesis" of the game - and active misdirection. It's also fully in its theme of L.A. Noir, and uses it to great advantage.

On the other hand, it's a bit more complicated and fiddly, and this less accessible. I had a player at my table who was clearly bored of the whole enterprise, despite how much fun I was having. Chronicles compared favorably to that, though what it makes up in accessibility it lacks in depth.

I think there's space for both games on your shelf, really.
